As others have said,I don't cruise to watch TV. Having said that Carnival has much better TV selection then RCI does. Now that is pathetic.

A bunch of old CBS shows. Horrible!

Have to watch TV with Spanish ads on Carnival? Oh how horrible you poor babies.

GardenGirl you absolutely 1000% correct. The more traveled individual understands this.
Yes if you are a yahoo.Perhaps they have Fox News for you (dubbed into Chinese)

Montreal I understand your socialized viewpoint. However as a taxpaying citizen, who can speak 3 languages other than English, I object to my dollars being used to reprint everything because people are too lazy to learn the primary language of the country they slipped into. It's all about principle and nothing about righteousness.

Oh sorry Ohio, I thought we were discussing how horrible it was that Carnival customers had to suffer with Spanish ads. Boo hoo.

And no ,I don't think it's about self righteousness. More like narrow mindedness and intolerance but that could just be my socialized viewpoint.

"Slipped into"?

It sounds like you're saying that every non-English speaking US resident is an illegal alien. Is that what you meant?

Did you think they attach a 3000 mile long cable wire to the ship when it leaves? They buy satellite feeds. I've had NYC, Miami, Denver and the aforementioned, ESPN is normally Desportes and CNN is usually international.

I don't go on cruises to listen to commercials that are targeted outside the market I live in anyway. It's not like I'm going to be going to some furniture depot in Colorado Springs.

If this bothers you, you must have some deep rooted problems. Or not understand you pay far less for cruises than you did years ago and they are going to cut corners because of that. From reading on here it seems people have a hard time accepting this fact.

Hell, back then you were lucky you got TV in the first place, most of what you got was the newspaper by the Pursers office or that awful text news service that took 45 minutes to cycle through everything it had.

BTW, the US has no national language.

Why would Americans want any of their TV in spanish? Go back about twenty years and we didn't have any spanish anywhere. Now we have it on everything we buy. If I wanted to watch commercials and join in the spanish culture, I would go live in that region of the world. The United States of America is an english, christian country. We do have people changing it and we are just sitting back letting it happen. As far as the spanish channels on the ships, why not have chinese, indian, korean, german etc? I see people from all over the world on our cruises. We are just catering to the spanish more than most of us would like.

So is there no room for a Puerto Rican Jew? In a few years, the white man will be a minority among minorities...you better embrace it now!

Now, the TV used to come from Denver, which I always thought was weird...but we had I thought more channels, and yes, LESS spanish. Our last cruise, all the TV was from NY, channels sucked, fewer channels, and yes, MORE spanish. We noticed it, but by no means offended by it.

I'm surprised no one's bit on that yet! :D

Ill bite... I love it..!!! I am one American that is sick and tired of every time I go to the store, everything has english and spanish. Is this America?? I am sick of the phones, for english press 1, for espanol, press two.... tell me, is it like this in Mexico??

I am sick and tired of everywhere I go, there are Mexicans doing jobs Americans that are born here should be doing... trust me... we have a lot of that here in Ohio. Don't get me wrong... I love Mexico and I love the mexicans... when I am visiting in their country. I know this is probably offensive and I apologize if it is... I certainly dont mean it to be... if you are here legally.. that's fine with me... but if you are illegal... go home... come back the legal way....

On the Destiny, right beside the casino bar, there was a band playing everynight. All spanish, people dancing the salsa... cool... BUT... he never sang or spoke one word in English... it really became very irritating... if you wanted to play in the casino, you were forced to listen to this all night... of course many enjoyed it..... especially the pit boss who was singing and dancing all along with them...

I have no problem with spanish speaking people. My problem, is that they come to America, and don"t speak english. They, want us to speak Spanish. I have been all over the world, and when I lived in Belgium, I promise you, they did not speak english, and totally expected me to speak french. When I live in Italy, they did not speak english, and expected me to speak italian. When I lived in Turkey, they definetly did not speak english, they spoke turkish. So, my point is this. Any individual that is coming to an english speaking country, should learn the language. Speak spanish if you like, but understand, the USA is an ENGLISH speaking country. You must learn the language of your new country.

I AGREE 100 %...wish our politicians did...

No we are not an english, christian country. I am neither, and I am an American. I speak both English and Spanish, and I choose not to watch the commercials in either language since it is all drivel.

Learn a second language and then you can watch the ridiculous commericals if you choose. However, if we have deteriorated to the point where hearing a language other than english is offensive, we should be ashamed of ourselves. And by the way, the language is spanish, but the people are not, unless of course, they are from Spain.

Agreed. Some posters might actually learn something...

Sorry, the intention certainly wasn't for this thread to go down this path. I agree that the limited Spanish I know came in useful on this last trip on a couple of occasions. I just put this out there as more of an FYI and something that I found to be interesting on this last trip :o

Unfortunately it's what's been happening on CC for a while now.

It's amazing that someone agrees with this statement and didn't even see this was directed at them.

If you do not like Spanish commercials, change the tv. I do not cruise to watch tv.

Americans speak English, French, Spanish, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin, etc. It has nothing to do with being lazy. English is one of the hardest languages to learn.

Do you learn EVERY language of the countries you travel to? For business reasons companies cater to those who speak another language. Whether in the US or other countries.

I always like Carnival's TV channel lineup - at one time they had network feeds from Erie, NY, and Nashville, then it changed to Denver feeds. One cruise we me a couple from Denver who was watching their city get hammered by a blizzard while they were enjoying the Caribbean. LOL

Princess, on the other hand, rarely had any type of US network broadcasting. At times, it is nice to get ready in the morning while catching a familiar network broadcast.

But, that being said, I don't cruise for the television stations.

What was really cool on our last cruise (Bermuda) was the Canadian feed that we got. It was a combo of shows from CBS, ABC, Fox, and NBC. You never knew what your were going to get. :)

Careful! Watching Canadian feeds could give you a socialized viewpoint.;)

Hi golfb4cruzing

There's some that would suggest it's a little too late for that! :D

Seriously though, that was wild! Is it the norm that you guys get our networks combined on a single channel, or was that just a different type of feed that you can subscribe to?

I have also traveled the world and one time and one time only was I on the street where nobody spoke English. Every other place I have been there were people who were desperate to try out their English.

Agreed. A few times in Greece I had to buy food by pointing, but usually English is easy to come by. On the same trip, the one time I did turn on the TV, I found South Park... dubbed into German. Go figure.
