This now shows on the Silversea website (but without prices). The itinerary looks wonderful - plenty of sea days. I am interested in the Los Angeles - Sydney sectors. Does anyone have any further information (eg when booking opens)?

Phillip, checking Silversea website a lot of cabins for this cruise are already waitlisted. I noted mid-ship,veranda and vista are still available. Higher cabins have the waitlisted sign next ot them. No fares are posted. I don't know when they started to take bookings!

SS waitlists the senior suites so as to offer them first to full world voyage guests.

At a certain time closer to the cruise they will start to release some for segments.

You can of course still book for a segment but you may not find out your success until closer to cruise date.

I also know there is a priority waitlist for senior suites, so those who book the segments first are the first to get cleared when they are released.

I have also been told if you book early for a senior suite for a segment and it is not released at all you are almost certain to get the next level down depending on your priority on the waitlist and length of segment booked.

So the longer the segment and the earlier you book the better chance you have of getting what you want or the next cat down.

Actually it is on the website. You have to search cruises by date-enter 1/13 and the ship is the Whisper. This is the only cruise for 2013 being shown. DW and I were very disappointed with the 2/13 itinerary-too many sea days and no visit to Halong Bay. Fortunately Crystal has an almost perfect trip and, therefore we will be taking that. As Keith 1010 likes to say aren't we fortunate to have so many choices.

Thanks for the link.

We are currently cruising around the world, in segments.

The Pacific and HKG to CPT are two big sections that we need to finish up our goal. This cruise has both but I doubt we can afford (or afford the time) to do both in 2013 but we'll keep an eye on this.

  • 9 months later...

So three weeks ago, I put down the deposit on a Vista for the first two segments (so LA to Sydney).

Although even today both Terrace and Vista show availability for each segment, I'm on the waitlist.

My agent wrote today saying the SS says I should also be waitlisted on the Terrace list to improve my chances of getting on board.

I've written back saying they have two choices and I have one: they can book us as two single segments, give me the back to back discount and move us mid cruise or they can upgrade someone else to a terrace (or give it to us at the Vista price.) My option is to ask for my deposit back and find another cruise, either on Silversea or on another cruise line.

The drop-dead payment day isn't until September so I don't know if this is SS trying to upsell us. We really don't want a terrace because we sleep with our drapes open so this option is truly the bottom of the barrel for me - I'd rather swap a Vista for a Terrace than change our in cabin habits and have to have the drapes drawn almost all the time.

It seems early to be telling us no space will open up (there are still 5 weeks left.)

Does anyone have any experience with space on World Cruises (which are obviously different than regular cruises.) We had no problem booking a Vista on last year's world cruise and we did it a lot closer to the sail date booking in late September/early Oct for an early Feb departure. But that 21 day cruise was originally one segment that got split later in the sales cycle.

good morning, CK. I have done a few of these. This is how it goes: SS has booked full and 1/2 WC guests. Everyone who wishes to sail segments goes on a list for the requested accommodation. The WL is because rooms are kept open for potential guests who will book the whole WC but they will not do it until they have to. The final payment due date is August 22. Things will be cleared up shortly thereafter. Hope this is clear and makes sense.

Duct Tape: this does help.

I'll hold on and wait. My agent knows I'll walk away if I don't get what I want so if I need an advocate, she'll be one. There's a Seabourne from Fort Lauderdale the same day (but longer, more money, better itin in some ways after Panama but I'd have to do the Caribbean again and I'm not interested in that.)
