SadieN Posted October 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2011 The easiest is to rent a car at the airport. I know Budget and Hertz have shuttles to/from the pier. I'm sure the others do also.
CruiserBruce Posted October 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2011 I agree. At worst, you take a taxi, it is only about 2 miles to the rental car lots.

gentlemancruiser Posted November 6, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2011 I know that Avis and Hertz will pick you up directly from the cruise terminal. If you going to be picked up at the airport ALL of the brand name car rental agencies have shuttles from the airport. If you look at Google Maps you'll see the car companies are very close to both the port and the airport.

smslms Posted January 17, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 17, 2012 Need a rent a car post cruise in San Diego where is the best place to go and do they have a shuttle. We usually rent from Alamo. When you're flying in they have a shuttle to the rental lot same as everyone else, but when you come off the ship the easiest thing is to grab a cab, all of a five minute ride to their lot. If you have reserved ahead of time you can bypass the lineup and just use the kiosk. Quick and easy, you'll be on the road in 5 minutes.:)
kenish Posted January 17, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 17, 2012 Renting a car from any airport is generally more expensive than renting "downtown". The airport charges the car company various taxes and concession fees. Not sure about San Diego but you may avoid the airport fees if the rental "location" is the docks and not the airport, even though the car comes from the same facility. Worth checking. Also recommend one person in your group pick up the car while the rest wait at the docks. Come back with the car and pick up the others and their luggage. Should take 45 minutes, max.
