Seasons

Recommended Posts

I haven't cruised in over a year and and it's been several years since I've cruised Royal Caribbean.

What can I expect on Jewel of the Seas?

  1. Who is the Cruise Director and what did you think of them?
  2. Decent activity schedule and entertainment?
  3. Would you recommend either of the specialty restaurants?
  4. What was your favorite way to spend a day at sea on Jewel?

Thanks!

My sea days consist of a nice breakfast in the dining room, followed by a day at the pool, reading, talking to others and drinking!

Have never paid attention to who the cruise director is on ANY ship, and don't really care about "activities".....the entertainment......I like the guest performers usually....not a fan of "production" shows!

The Seaview Café is tucked off in a corner of the ship, near the Adventure Club. There, you can get everything from burgers, sandwiches and fish n' chips to milkshakes and other diner plates. My husband overheard many people who commented on how they loved being able to order a "fresh" burger and "real" milkshakes. The Solarium Café is something not to be missed. There, you will find a few quick, veggie options such as good pizzas and wraps, along with crepes made to order! The crepes are available with a variety of toppings such as butterscotch, strawberries, chocolate, ham or cheese. The great thing about both the Solarium Café and the Seaview Café is that they were both open very late (until 1 a.m.) for a late-night snack.

1. Clo O'Connor was the CD on my recent Jewel sailing, BUT she was leaving for vacation at the end of our sailing, and a woman named Carly (sp?) was taking over. LOVED Clo, but no idea how Carly will be. Clo just cracked me up, I loved her morning show.

2. I am 35 and found myself disinterested in much of the things listed as activities in the Cruise Compass. I did go to a couple shows in the Coral Theatre and thought they were quite good. There was always dancing in the Centrum, as well as live music elsewhere on the ship. My opinion is, if you enjoy the company of the person/people you are with, you'll enjoy the activities no matter what you choose to do.

3. Did not try either specialty restaurant. I do not care for seafood and do not have an overly "fancy" palate, so I didn't see a single thing on either menu that looked worth the cover charge to me.

4. The Solarium is beautiful and I wish I could live in it. haha. But on sea days, it will be busier than usual, which kind of takes the "magic" out of it. As mentioned, the Seaview Cafe is a nice quiet spot to get some really good food if you're hungry and bored. They even have just a nice plate of nachos with several dips for just a snack. Usually I would just walk around exploring the ship, stopping to watch people dancing or doing a Wii hula hoop competition in the centrum, standing on the outside decks to get some good pics of the water. One day I even went to the Casino and put in a whopping $2.00 and sat there pressing the button 200 times. LOL. (Hey it takes awhile to go through $2 when you're playing a penny at a time! haha).

From what I understand and have experienced, it seems like the Jewel is kind of a "lazier" ship that draws a "more mature" and laid-back crowd. Very good for relaxing, and lots of spots to do so. Beautiful little library where you can grab a book if you want. Great little specialty coffee shop called Cafe Latte-Tudes. You have to pay for the speciality coffees but the price isn't that bad and they have free pastries you can grab with it.

One of the few things I saw in the compass that I was looking forward to was Bingo, but the lines were so long we couldn't even get near it so opted out. Another day I thought I'd go to an accupuncture seminar but the doctor never showed up.

I would say one of the highlights of my cruise was the breafasts in the Windjammer. LOL. They had corned beef hash every morning! That's a childhood thing that I got from my Dad when I was little. And on some mornings, they had a made-to-order omelet station and their ham and cheese omelets were soooo good. The Schooner bar on deck 6 is a very pretty place to grab a comfy chair by the window and watch the ocean as you sip a cocktail.

Jan, thanks for your post. I am VERY excited now! I just need some relaxation and this will be a "sister cruise," so it will ge good.

Parrotheadtoo, thanks for the cafe tips. Good to know!

cb, I'm a wake up, eat and plopp myself somewhere comfy for a good read kind of person.

This is sort of a cruise to nowhere as it's only 4 nights -- so I'm definitely looking forward to just chillin'.
