Just got off the Star

Just got off the Star 10006 vinny-van-go suite was terrific too much room actually for two people but would do it again. All staff were great Concierge, Buttler and Steward outstanding. Food was good better then any 5/6 star all inclusive, we ate at Aqua twice plus additional cost restaurants and all were fine. Ports were good and Casino was fair, any questions fire away will try to include more later.

We'll be on The Star in Oct 2012. Big Apple to the Big Easy 14 day repo . Been reading some good and some not so good reviews. We are in a midship balcony on 9 which cannot compare with a suite . I am happy to hear your cruise went well. On our last cruise we had a fantastic time but read a review of someone who was unhappy with 90 percent of the cruise. We are happy to be cruising and I'm sure we'll love this trip too. Looking forward to reading more of your review !

Can you describe the check-in process for suites?

Is there a special line? Or is there a room we have to look for (like Miami).

If you have priority check in you simply tell them when you get up stairs and once you finish the health form they take you to a seperate area and set up your account, take your picture meet your concierge and then are taken on board to Cagney's for lunch the whole process took 20 or 30 minutes. Even general boarding looked very fast our friends travelling with us got on board almost as quick as we did. of course a few bags went to the naughty room so they took a little longer to get, not ours of course.

How was the check-in at the Tampa Cruise Terminal? Heard it could take 2-3 hours? Will be cruising the NCL Star in February.

Define Fair as far the casino goes...

Avoid .01/.02 slots always have been a scam in my books and seemed to be here as well, $1.00 slots seemed to pay back nicely more often then not stayed to the ones on the aft wall 3 wheel of fortune machines and the one to their immediate left payed out nicely.

I wasn't on this cruise but I can tell you it won't take 2-3 hours for your cruise. The first cruise from Tampa had problems. It was the first time Star had cruised from this port. Also, I understand many of the check in people were new....so there was a learning curve. I'm going in January and I'm not worried at all.:)

Sounds like a great time and I am looking forward to more of your review. I was wondering what you thought of out very tentative shore plans:

Roatan-Jungle Zip line-seems to be very close to the port so we can walk-45.00

Belize- Altun Ha with Major Tom-50.00 OR nothing

Costa Maya-Tropicante- restaurant with small beach and snorkeling. they let you stay all day-no cover, will hold chaise lounges for you. They just want you to eat and drink!

Cozumel- nothing OR money bar (similar to Tropicante) OR send the 2 18 year old boys on a mini jeep tour (small ruins, swim, snorkel)

Maybe you have some better ideas?

Linda

To the OP:

Who, among the suite-guest, has access to the reserve seating in the main show room ? Travelling with my 83 yo parents ( we have two of the SG suites), and they would love / benefit greatly from the reserve seating.

How quiet was Aqua or the other MDR? Father wears two hearing aids, and on prior cruises, MDR noise was a factor.

Did they offer suite passengers a bridge tour ? Again, my Dad would love this.

Thanks.

Roatan we did Maya Key private island and it was nice low key great beach good price on the buckets of beer some snorkeling great buffet a few animals to look at and great place to relax. short 5 minute water ride off the front of the ship. one of the people we were with did get a lot of bug bites but no one else only thing she did different was sit in the shallows on the beach instead of in a chair. stay as long as you want boats take you back to port every 1/2 hour or so. limited things to do in port.

Belize was a 20 min tender so we just hung out at port had some beers and little shopping and back to the boat. would likely do something organized there next time we went.

Costa Maya without a doubt would go back to Tropicante Steve is great and his staff will take care of you send him an email first for sure. we stayed there ate and drank beer all day for $75.00 5 people had atleast 5 buckets and food was very good. there is a fair amount to do in the port itself but going to Tropicante is well worth the $3 cab ride. i have his email if you need it. Also his silver jewlery buddy apperas to be the most honest around if interested just ask about him.

Cozumel we just left the port area and walked around two or three streets off the main drag and visited a few local bars.

Can't answer that show question only went to one and Patrick our concierge was great, he did also get all of our friends into the Captains reception regarless of how suite they were. the show i did notice our section was for owners and grarden villa guest but i am sure depending on the turn out they could accomodate. yes we did get a bridge tour but it was organized based on a large turn out to the CC meet and great which had close to 50 people i believe and the captain liked that.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise and the food was good. This seems to be such a hit or miss subject now days. It doesn't matter what cruise line. Let's face it, what one thinks is great food, another will say, it was the worst they ever ate. My feeling, you can always find something that is good or very good.

Could you please tell me who your butler was and if what he did for you? We're in the Picasso Suite in January.

Thank you!

Toni

Patrick was the concierge and Lucky was the butler and Combrein(?) was the steward all were very good.

Patrick looked after all you wanted outside the room basically from seating at shows to booking trips and restaurants to getting you on and off the ship. in our room we had a cordless ship phone which was to keep in touch if we needed either the concierge or butler as well keeping in touch with other travelers in different state rooms.

Lucky looked after anything within the room basically if you needed more limes he would find them if you needed room service he would deliver, last day he also retrieved our liquior purchases made during port visits.

Finally Combrein who was very good kept room clean and ice bucket filled.

Hi. Glad that you enjoyed your cruise.

1. Did you dock in Roatan?

2. Did you dock in town in Cozumel?

Thanks.

Ellen

The only tender we had was in Belize and it was about a 20 min ride in but pretty well run and decent tender boats.

Thanks Wejamm , we will be in the same suite come March. The question I have is , Did you hear any significant noise from the bridge above ? And was the liquor selection(3 bottles) for the suite decent ? ;)

Looking forward to the full review.

Also to post pics and files you need to save them on your computer first then upload from there.

Probably due to the size (too big). Try saving it as a smaller size then try again.

zero noise from above, grab a cheap Captains hat and wear it first day leaving port the real Captain will give you a wave they can look right into your front deck. only noise we had was depending on the wind direction a slight wistle coming from the front deck door. talked to some people who were in an aft suite deck 8 and had a constant base music noise coming from the lounge below till the late hours of the night.

3 bottle selection was alright typical well stock we ordered a bottle of GM as well think it was $83 tip though don't order it until you are out of port unless you want to pay the tax, think it was another $6. buckets of beer were 6 for $30 i think and make sure you keep your recipt for the bucket deposit as you need that when you return it save haveing to go to the front desk and getting a copy printed out
