Ncl Star 6/26/05 Shore Excursions

:) Hi,

Need help, this will be first cruise and the shore excursions are driving me crazy. I downloaded tours and prices and now know less than before. We've been on helicopter flights in the Canadian icefields, so that's nothing new.

Fellow posters have said instead of the Mendenhall tours, they just go and buy a bus to the Mendenhall glacier.

Is this a good idea?

Most of the tours listed seemed very expensive. We have been to Alaska before on a land tour and the itinerary on the Star is new to us.

Would appreciate any suggestions and advice.

Regarding Mendenhall, we walked off the ship and went to the open plaza. There you can buy a bus ticket to Mendenhall, both ways for $10. Great price, our bus driver gave us an oral tour of the city as she drove us to the Glacier. We thought it one of the best trips we'd taken. We did our own climbing up the trail on the mountain by the glacier. Bring water and snacks. It's a long hike. Enjoy it.

Please narrow down your interests, as you can see there are plenty of excellent tours. If you want a TOUR with Mendenhall glacier, excellent is MGT from a dock booth, this gives a good downtown Juneau overview and several stops- about $20++ the SHUTTLE is as mentioned $10 round trip back and forth to the glacier. the above is probably referencing the East Loop Glacier Trail??? 3 1/2 miles, half switchbacks.
