CarolN Posted December 1, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2011 We will be staying in Fort Lauderdale pre cruise in January, 2012 and are wondering what to expect weather-wise. Is it typically warm or cool during January? It would be helpful to know what to pack.

Is it typically warm or cool during January? It would be helpful to know what to pack. Accuweather predicts a warm winter for south Fl. I would guess that the daytime temperatures would be between 75-80 degrees in mid January.
mountainmare Posted December 1, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2011 We have had weather in the 80s and also highs in the 40s-50s. You just have to wait and see. We're also going in January and I am also eager to pack.
FLAHAM Posted December 1, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 1, 2011 Most typically highs are in the mid-70s and nightly lows are about 60. Ocean swimming is possible on most days but many will find it a little chilly on some. Al fresco dining is a better bet at lunch than at dinner. Not much rain! eandj Posted December 2, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 2, 2011 Depends on when in Jan. Early Jan. can be quite chilly even in the daytime ...especially if cloudier. Make sure you have a sweater or light jacket. 2 or 3 Jan.'s ago we left Miami wearing our Wisconsin winter wear. Was 40 degrees. The ship actually canceled the outdoor drill and kept the folks inside for the procedural directions. last year we wore sweatshirts boarding in the late morning in Ft. Rare Keith1010 Posted December 2, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 2, 2011 We have stayed in South Florida in January 2007, 2010 and 2011. Each time it has varied. It was in the low 80's the first year, 30's to 50's second year, and 60's and 70's earlier this year. You just never know. Best to check forecast a few days before arrival. BobT172 Posted December 2, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 2, 2011 While it will certainly be better than up north, it can be a toss of the dice...we were in south FLorida for two weeks in Jan 2010 and it was near freezing...in Key West when we were there, it was in the 30's at night... That was the coldest January in south Florida since 1884. We live in SWFL; and, it was so cold they closed the pools because the heaters could not warm them. There were a plethora of dead fishes, both around the retention ponds and at the beaches. Delightfully, the predictions are for a moderate winter this year for our area. royalcruz Posted December 2, 2011 #10 Share Posted December 2, 2011 This is the warmest December that I can remember...lows this week are around 70 and highs are around 80! January and February are sometimes cooler than December and it can get chilly and windy at the beach, especially at night.
