Port Canaveral to Universal

We are a group of 15 leaving Baltimore for Port Canaveral Feb. 5. We would like to go to Universal for the day and are hesitant to hire a driver and go as a group and not on the cruise line excursion.

Has anyone done this? If you hired a driver, did you spend the day worrying about making it back to the ship before it sailed? Carnival's excursion is $169, which includes transportation and entrance into Universal. If you've done this on your own or as your own "group", how does that price compare?

Check the prices of Universal tickets on line and then look into renting 3 cars - it's only about an hour drive from PC to Universal. Leave yourself some extra time on the reverse end to get back to PC, drop the cars and shuttle to the ship. You should be able to do this for much less than $169 per person.

If you want to look at a group charter, try one of these providers:

Cocoa Beach shuttle www.cbshuttle.com

Cruisexpressfla

Star Trans

TraveLynx (www.travelynx.com)

Executive VIP Limo 321-505-0009

Beachline transportation. 321-453-9660

Sunrise Florida Transportation 1-866-709-8769

Good luck! :)

Here are my thoughts about trying to squeeze in one of the parks during a port stop: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=31467413&postcount=8

Universal tickets are currently $85, I believe. Your timing is going to have to be near perfect, if you arrange transportation yourself. I don't know how much money you would save arranging your own transportation and paying for your own tickets. At least through Carnival, there would be no risk of missing the ship's departure. It would, however, be an expensive trip for part of a day. You decide.

Our group of 13 just did the round trip from the Gem/ Port Canaveral

to Universal citywalk and back.

We used Executive vip limousine and the experience was real good.

We paid $450 for all 13 of us for the whole round trip.

My kids were really thrilled when this MEGA STRETCH limousine

pulled up.:D

Michael was great and a real proffessional.
