What happened to Catalina Island?

We visited Catalina Island with Ventura in 2008 but P&O seem to have dropped this beautiful island from its itinerary, can anyone explain why.

Ventura ran aground about three years ago and was fined a large sum(six fugures) by the Dominica government for enviromental damage. Since then P&O have not been back.

Ventura is scheduled to visit Catalina island on the cruise departing 28th Jan.

They do try and vary the itineraries as well so that people who cruise each year get to see different places.

A late change has happened every cruise for the last 3 years - as if they didn't already know !!

we just got back from 2 weeks in the Caribbean onboard ventura and visited Catalina island. Stunning beach,free loungers. Snorkelling gear available and banana boats etc

 

P&O couldnt put on the BBQ due to "hygiene" issues or something ( cue lots of complaints ! we didnt care we just ate when got back onboard)

 

apparently they did a BBQ back on board up on deck

Looking at JAN 2013 itineraries for Ventura, they seem to be reverting to the 7 day round trips out of Barbados so beloved of the ex-OV community of which I am a fully paid-up member.

I would have thought this would increase passenger flow, thus eliminating some of the heavy discounting that goes on in the 2/3 weeks before a cruise.

Have just returned yesterday from Ventura and we had a lovely day on Catalina although they did the BBQ on ship and the tender transfer was a bit bouncy but it was still worth it
