  • 3 weeks later...

Gayle ran into a major reaction to a medication and to say the least our traditional New Years Eve cruise with our fellow cruisers from Thornhill, Ontario was spoiled. Now back home and will provide our abridged comments on this great ship and limited activities

Thanks for taking the time to share your cruise with us. I will be on the Constellation on 2/11 for the 14 day voyage and this is also my first Celebrity cruise.

I saw your post about wifi. Is it only in public areas? Not in cabins?

Thanks.

I may have some more ?? for you guys. In the mean time enjoy the sailing.

The Wifi is not available in the cabins and is limited to specific areas of the ship. We encountered normal problems with speed and started to use more and more the Wifi options in the ports. Caveat- several of the crusie terminals now have free Wifi, but due to the band width and useage is frustrating slow. If you need speedy Wifi ask the tourist infor mation normally on the dock as to the best location for high speed Wifi

Andy,

There was a post elsewhere that Sue Denning was leaving Connie for Solstice after the current cruise. Have you any further intel on this?

In one of her shows, which she did as an entertainer she mentioned her husband was joining her onboard the next cruise

I understand Ms. Denning is quite enjoyable and of good humor. I was really looking forward to having her as CD. Did you enjoy her?

Yes we did enjoy her. Very informative, funny, and entertaining. When you are wondering around the ship looking lost, she immediately stopped what she was doing and offered assistance

Great asset to the ship

Thanks for the live updates! We were on the Connie almost exactly one year ago. Absolutely loved it!

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity merged back in 1997. Don't know when you last cruised with Celebrity, but I believe the policy regarding carry-on alcohol has been in place for quite a few years now... You can still buy alcohol or wine in foreign ports (we often do), but it will be checked on boarding and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the cruise.

Any idea who are the bartenders at the Martini Bar? If you happen to run into Boom-Boom (Boonthan), ask for a Jolly Rancher martini... but I warn you, they're addictive :D

Hope you're enjoying your cruise.

Cheers,

Luc

Regret to report that we saw the long arm of RCI making changes to Celebrity. Hope they do not screw up a great cruise line with their nickel and dime approach. To date they have not and I found the ship still top notch

:)Thank you for updates. Is there any indication on board who will replace Perry Grant in Michael's Club. We are sailing on 1/14 b2b and hoping there will be a performer that is equally lively and entertaining and able to give us a good laugh. Is that asking too much, hopefully not!!!!

This was Perry's last cruise and he was off to a well deserved and needed holiday (needed in my opinon as his shows were not up to previous standards and one in particular was too imitating/ embarassing to guests he drew out of the crowd. He did put on a partying show in the full theatre which was well done. I did not catch the name of his replacement in Michael's Room but certainly will be a hard act to follow

Did he give any indication of when he'd be back from his vacation?

He mentioned late February which was a surprise to us as the contracts normally provide for a two month off period.

Recommend that you give the Captain's club a call. They should have the specific date

Thanks for the posts. I

realize you've been off the Connie for a while, but do you remember if the first formal night was your first or second day at sea? We're on the Connie in 8 weeks in March and was wondering. Our anniversary is the first day at sea and hoped it would be a formal night also.

Already counting the weeks til we board!

Could anyone tell me please who Captain Club Host/Hostess is on Constellation now?

The Captain's Club hostess was Galyna Kulykova She did tell us that she would be leaving Constellation soon and was not sure where she would end up.

You should love it. The recent refurbishment of the ship is great. Level of entertainment in the Theatre, in particular, became very good. Also good entertainment in Reflections and a lot of fun. Food was a little lacking in selection but very good in the main restaurant. Later meals in the Tuscan Grill and Ocean Liners were gourmet and service first class. We experienced very good to outstanding service throughout the cruise.

Only two flaws; i) the blackjack tables, which for the first cruise in my life, were a disaster (one session dealer drew four 21s in a row) and after two attempts quickly gave up and stopped playing; and ii) Chocolate extravaganza which they have substantially cut back on and crammed into Reflections which did not have enough space to accommodate both the entertainment and Chocolate extravaganza

Our first night was New Years Eve, which is normally a formal night, but since departure was Dec 31 was not. First formal was the next day/ first day at sea. We had three formal nights on the 14 day cruise. Dress ranged for men from tuxedos to dark long shirts and dark pants. Ladies more closely followed the ships dress code

Thanks for info. Since you were in the casino some, do you remember if the slots had been updated with ticket in/ticket out payouts? The last time we were on the Connie, they was still coin operated and I'm primarily a slots player. DH is blackjack (maybe the tables will be better by March) and 3 card, whick is always a "crap shoot".

Looking forward to trying the specialty restaurants and always the Martini Bar!

Alreay looking at special clothes for Formal nights- DH will take his trusty tux.

Due to Gayle's health, who likes the slots, we never got that close to the machines. I blew up one of my photos of the casino and they are taking coins & dollar bills. however, will ask one of the persons who were with us on the ticket. I beleive she played some slots

Crush & the frosted martini bar were a fun drop off spots for a drink.

Another great drop off spot was Cafe al Bacio where the Decaf Lattes were some of the best ever experienced; but pricey. Lattes in the main DR left a lot to be desired

Don't forget to have a look at the special restaurant packages. They do save you money

I was really enjoying your "live from" and was so sorry to hear about Gayle's illness. I hope she is fully recovered now. Thanks so much for continuing to post and answer questions.
