ekco Posted January 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2012 Try posting on Island forum as the Island Escape has always done that itinerary, until this winter that is.:):) I liked doing the Canaries cruise as there are 3 pick up days and that means long days in port so you're not rushing back to the ship to depart late afternoon. Also, with so many people getting off in Tenerife and Gran Canaria there's a chance to get on a sunbed while the ship is quiet during changeover.:):) Jan
yorkshirephil Posted January 9, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Well after a wonderful :)1st Thomson cruise last year (Adriatic Explorer)We've gone and booked Destiny Colourful Coasts for 23/11/12. Have any of you wonderful Thomson experts got any advice and info for us. Thank you all in advance We have just got back from this cruise, we went aroud twice over Christmas and new year, we had a great cruise and met some lovely people. It is difficult to give advise as what suited us may not suit you. We spent a lot of time on the ship chilling as we have visited the Canaries several times and done many tours. We also tend to do our own thing excursion wise as I am not a big fan of sitting on coaches or visiting carpet factories and the like, plus it can get a bit expensive. A kindred spirit Phil,:) exactly the same here but as you say , everyone to their own. Only mistake I made was we only went around once ;) :D

Have any of you wonderful Thomson experts got any advice and info for us. Thank you all in advance Hi I too did the Adriatic explorer on the spirit in July, which was our first cruise and loved every minute of it! We too have also booked colourful coasts on destiny but go 18th February! Can't wait, although have heard some dodgy reviews of the ship, but we are still very excited and will see! Will do a report when we get back.

Any ideas on what to do by our selves would be great. we aren't ones for organised tours, and the idea of staying on board on change over day sounds good. That'll give himself chance to make a good effort with the free AI :D From reading between the lines of reviews we are expecting the ship to be "tired" but are we right in expecting the same kind of smashing crew as the Spirit had. Thanks[/quote'] Madiera is great just to mooch around, lots to look at, good parks and market. The HOHO bus is good value, there was an offer, for 12 euro you could get a ticket for the yellow and/or red bus. The botanical gardens are worth a visit, this can be done using the HOHO bus or just a local bus. There are some lovely cafe's which don't rip you off. La Palma is nice to walk around, it is only small but very pleasant, if you don't mind the coach then there is a good island tour or you could get a taxi tour. We tend to wander around Arrecife when in Lanzagrotty, there is a good path from the port to the centre of Arrecife (2 mile) along the coast or the shuttle bus is £4, taxi 8 euro. Grand Canaria, short walk to town, promenade along the front to marina and small beach. We don't get off in Agadir, been there done that, not impressed, someone did say that the 4X4 tour was very good.
