Eurodam in Nynashamn

Does anyone know if the ship's tours get to tender first at Nynashamn? IF so, how much later do the rest of us get to leave? I'm trying to figure if it is worth doing a ship's tour for this reason. Thanks.

That's what I understand too and therefore Nynashamn will probably be the only port I take one of HAL's excursions. I would prefer to take the train in and do my own thing but then I'm nervous about getting back on time.

We decided to use HAL's (transfer only) bus into Stockholm from Nynashamn on our Eurodam Baltic cruise last summer, as we thought the train could be risky. The tenders and coach all worked very smoothly with no hold-ups at all. It was a very early start, which we were happy about.

There was a 'guide' on the coach on the way into Stockholm who provided lots of interesting information. She was very happy to answer questions and seemed very knowledgeable. Maps of the city were also given out on the coach.

The best thing was that we were in Stockholm in time to walk comfortably (it was a beautiful day at the beginning of July) from where we were dropped in the centre of the city to the Vasa museum in time to arrive just as it was opening.

Brilliant decision to go there first as it was quiet and we were able to do the first tour in English, which was excellent and only had a few people. By the time we came out there was a huge queue - just out of interest we asked how long it would take to get in from the back of the queue and were told at least two hours!

It would be such a shame to waste that length of time time standing in a queue in such a wonderful city, especially when you only have a limited time there. Afterwards we talked to lots of fellow passengers from the ship who had seen the length of the queue and decided not to bother. We didn't tell them the Vasa museum was one of the highlights of our trip!

Returning by coach to the ship ensured we were back in good time, which took away the potential worries about trains being cancelled.

As there were four of us we did look into hiring a car, as that's often a viable alternative for a day in port, but it proved impossible.

Normally we prefer to be independent, but felt that the transfer coach was well worth paying for on this occasion.

Thanks Silverwing. As usual CC comes through.

Do you remember if independant tour people could leave as early as those on ship's tours? We will probably do as you did even though we don't like the ship tours normally. Do you remember how you got from the drop off to the Vasa Museum? (directions) What else did you do in Stockholm? Thanks again!
