euro cruiser Posted January 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2012 As one who immediately jumps on those who post unsubstantiated comments about "frequent" and "unpredictable" strikes in Italy (strikes are usually known well in advance and published), I have to admit when reality bumps up against my experience and general knowledge. There is a wildcat taxi strike at the moment in Rome - a very unusual occurrence, but these are unusual economic times, even more so in Europe than in the States. Article (in English) here: http://ansa.it/web/notizie/rubriche/english/2012/01/13/visualizza_new.html_44081405.html At least they've chosen to do this in the very, very off season. Rare Hlitner Posted January 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Euro, thanks for the info. I just had a crazy thought of "here we go again." One wonders how long it will be until the public begs Berlusconi to come back :) Hank
SadieN Posted January 18, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Thank you for posting this. The next wildcat strike is January 23rd, just when the universities are starting up again in Italy.
euro cruiser Posted January 19, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Not to put too fine of a point on it, but the strike called for January 23rd is not a wildcat, it is a called and planned strike of the usual kind. Both the strike commission and the ministry of transportation list the strike on the 23rd on their web sites: http://www.commissionegaranziasciopero.it/dettaglioSciopero?id=22088&tipo=tr http://www.mit.gov.it/mit/site.php?p=scioperi
