mchelle77 Posted January 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2012 Do all balcony cabins have sleep sofas, or do some have those bunks? We have a balcony booked on the Jewel and it says that it sleeps 3, does that mean we have a bunk? My daughter sleepwalks sometimes and I'd rather her be on sofa next to us but it is what it is. njhorseman Posted January 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2012 Cabins with a three person capacity have a sleep sofa. Four passenger cabins have a sleep sofa and a bunk that drops down from the ceiling.
mcarney Posted January 21, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2012 What about the beds / mattress / linens, etc. I was on the NCL Pride of Aloha back in 2006 and the beds were awful... we had twins and they were literally cots with a thin mattress ... not very impressed at all. I want to book a surprise cruise for me and my dad for his 85th birthday, we usually cruise on HAL - but NCL was having some good sales and thought about trying them again. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :) Marianne

The quality of the mattresses was improved a couple of years ago, and I think the food is better now than it was in 2006.
mcarney Posted January 21, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2012 Thank you... are the twin beds still like cots (tubular frame) or on a platform type frame?
njhorseman Posted January 21, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2012 Thank you... are the twin beds still like cots (tubular frame) or on a platform type frame? I wouldn't call them cots, but presumably the frame is tubular because you can store your luggage by sliding it underneath the bed. My recollection the beds on the other cruise lines I've taken are pretty much the same...I always have stored luggage under the bed regardless of the cruise line. Any time you have twin beds that convert to a queen or king, which is the set up on most beds on most cruise lines, it can't be a platform because the bed has to be movable. mcarney Posted January 21, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2012 The twins on HAL are platform type .. or at least wooden or heavy --- the tubular ones would move and slide so easily - I just want to make sure dad is comfortable

I saw a pic somewhere (I'll try to find it) where it showed a bunk over a table and chairs, no sofa. I'm hoping it was a different ship, or an OLD picture. Sauer-kraut Posted January 21, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2012 mcarney, You can always request an egg-crate foam topper if the mattress isn't comfortable for you, it will make a difference.
ilsh75 Posted January 22, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2012 We were in 10552 and I found the sofa to be very comfortable for my bad back. The bed was too soft for me so my dh and son(3) took the bed I took the sofa. It is however short so I slept diagonally . Should be great for kids no problem
