New Orleans Port

I thought I read a post that said if you cruise out of the New Orleans port you start off going down the Mississippi River is this true?

You are in the river basin for most of the first night until you get further out into the gulf.

t is a fun way to start a cruise. We watch the river bank and also passing ships.

The closer you get to the ocean, the less houses you see. Some people say you can tell when you enter the ocean.

Not true. Everything opens within about 30-45 minutes of leaving the dock. Most have partied/gambled for a long time and gone to bed before reaching the Gulf, it's a long trip. Not much to see after the first 1-2 hours. Lot's of dark swamps and barge piers.
