High School Senior, 18 years old. Activities?

Recommended Posts

I don't think under 21 should be allowed in the casino's just as it is in Las Vegas. Also, never have had as issue with the 21 year old drinking age.

Royal Caribbean markets itself as an "international" cruise line, yet it follows US drinking laws, but international gambling laws??? The issue is that every country except the US allows citizens to begin drinking by age 19. IMO - if they're going to follow US rules they should do it all the way through with drinking and gambling. However, I believe that since they are an International cruise line, the ships are registered in the Bahamas, and most cruises sail in International waters, the drinking age and gambling age on the ship should be 18.

My daughter was 18 when we went on the Oasis last summer. It is true that 18 year olds can go into the clubs and everything that adults can do, except drink. I don't think it is that there is nothing for them to do, I think it has to do with it being harder to find those that are close to your age.

My daughter did an exchange overseas at 15, and is a very outgoing, easy to meet person. She stuck with us on the cruise because she did not want to go to the clubs by herself. It would have been nice if they had a place dedicated to that age group, if for no other reason than to get to meet people.

I know that there was a meet and greet for that age group on the Rising Tide the first night, but she wasn't comfortable going to a "bar" to meet other people.

She has experience in clubs, and bar settings since she was in Europe for a year, and the clubs there are open to 16 year olds, but she always had a group to go with - it wasn't like she was going there only by herself. (She turned 16 a month into the exchange, for those that will think she was in the clubs underage.)

If we were to do it again, we would arrange for a same age friend to go, so that they could go out together.

Hope this helps from the perspective of an outgoing kid who still found it hard to go to bars to meet people.

And just to add, our 15 year old son, who is the shy, reserved, stick close to home kid, met so many people through the teen club, that we hardly ever saw him the whole week! It really made it easy for him to find friends.

It ended up being opposite to what we had expected - we expected to have our son hang with us for the week! But it was nice to have that week one on one with her as she left for University the week after we got home!

  • 1 month later...

Thank you so much CaptData! I will have 2 -18 year old's next summer on the Allure for a graduation gift. It's nice to know that they have thought of this age group.

Of course, both of these young men are very outgoing so I don't foresee them having any issues.

I've cruised many times with this age group. One year, when my daughter was 18, we inquired and were told she could be "17" for the cruise or "18" and her seapass would reflect the age. So if she was 17 she would not be permitted in the night club or the casino but she could participate in the youth activities. She opted for 18 and had a blast.

My kids love the pool games, flowrider and rock climbing wall. There are organized volleyball, basketball and dodgeball games every sea day. They love the game shows like Love and Marriage, Battle of the Sexes and Quest and enjoy watching Karaoke. And of course there is the nightclub! That's where that age group will be late at night.

If they have a few extra dollars they can gamble. This attraction didn't last long for my guys!

I was not happy about this but in January but my 18 year actually went to the cigar lounge and bought a cigar. Why? Because he could!

There will be others in this age group and I would suggest striking up conversations. And remember, several days you'll be in port.

Thanks Capt Data...printed that for DD1 who will be 18 on Allure. She and her sister (who will be days to 16 ) have discussed this at length. They are great about hanging together, but seems the age split may cause a problem.

On Jewel, they found the teen club was a hangout for the under 14 set most often, the older kids met and then roamed.

They are both shy and work better when they have each other as wingwomen! They are unlikely to mingle much seperately. So they have decided that if its allowed, 18 YO will get the double punch allowing her to go to the teen club to meet other kids.

If DD 1 can't get the double punch, they have decided to enjoy all the ship has to offer on their own and if there are activities for teens outside the club (sports court etc) they will get involved in those.

No matter which way it goes, between our shows (my girls want this cruise for the shows, so yes, they will go to all of them!) and family port excursions and dinners, I don't imagine there will be much time for "hanging out" anyway!:D
