RedInLove Posted February 9, 2012 Author #26 Share Posted February 9, 2012 I like espadrille wedges, but have a hard time finding my size with ankle straps that aren't way too big. But for walking around at port, I think I want something more flat.
RedInLove Posted February 9, 2012 Author #27 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Wow......such a hard question....almost as bad as what jeans to buy.........I must have comfy shoes and really need to be a bit stylish too....and.....eneryone's feet are different. So here are suggestions that I have used over the years... Mephisto (very pricey) makes a great walking shoe but too pricely unless on sale Merrill is great also....they make a cross between a sandal and gym shoe that you can use with or without socks Echo makes great shoes..........I personally have have the Yucatan style of sandals in several colors and have used these on uneven surfaces in serveral different countires..I also just recently purchased their "quasi" gym shoe which is lightweight and has a great sole for cobblestone. Clarks are a great shoe....several of my friends use them but I have a narrow foot and can't wear them. All the regular gym shoe companies are now making lighter versions that are cute and comfortable.....expecially check out New Balance which I find to be the best. All these companies have on line sites and will tell you where to find in your area......also The Walking Company has a webiste that carries several of the above mentioned plus others. I heartly agree with the previous post to wear the shoes for several weeks to a month to "break" them in. Then when you take them out of the suitcase and put them on there will be no surprises....... Good luck and happy feet!!!! Dee Thanks for all the suggestions! My FIL actually works for New Balance, and they have an outlet store in MA so I might check them out next week to see what they have. RumRunner01 Posted February 9, 2012 #28 Share Posted February 9, 2012 I am *extremely* picky about my shoes. I must have shoes that are functional and cute and comfy. That is usually VERY difficult to find. I happened upon these shoes: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/merrell-lotta-sandals-for-women~p~3023d/?utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=PaidShopping&utm_term=Merrell_Lotta_Sandals_For_Women&utm_campaign=PCGOOGLEB2&codes-processed=true and bought them for a trip to Hawaii. They are fantastic! I can wear them all day, wear with a sun dress, capris, jeans, shorts, whatever. I have hiked two volcanoes, gone rock climbing in them, mall walking, I've been all over in them. They are very well made and most important are comfortable and give me the support I need whether walking or hiking or looking pretty. I also HATE for my feet to be closed in so having open shoes is huge for me. These shoes are very well worth the money. Last week we went hiking that involved rock climbing and people on the trail thought I was crazy wearing these but I gotta tell ya, these are the BEST shoes I have ever had for being active. SadieN Posted February 10, 2012 #31 Share Posted February 10, 2012 Know what you mean about sandals. I didn't want 'mountain troll climbing shoes'. I bought Ecco's. Similar to these http://www.eccousa.com/shoes/womens/sandals/breeze-cross-strap-sandal/3016/detail.aspx Like the look of these 'mountain troll climbing shoes though http://www.eccousa.com/shoes/womens/sandals/hill-light-sandal/3070/detail.aspx

RumRunner01 Posted February 12, 2012 #35 Share Posted February 12, 2012 Those sandals are really cute! But not in my size! Anyone know where else to order them?? Would love to have a pair! They were shoes from last year but I know some online retailers still have some as close outs. I would do an internet search for Merrell Lotta and see what retailers come up. Suitcasefull Posted February 20, 2012 #37 Share Posted February 20, 2012 Second the vote for Keen. Just bought Whisper sandals and slides since want to be able to wear them in water and they were so comfortable I ordered some Bali style (like flipflops but no toe thong) since they were lighter and not as sporty as the Whisper. Zappo's service is great and free shipping!
CactusGirly Posted February 20, 2012 #38 Share Posted February 20, 2012 My vote goes to Tevas. I have both the flat sandal and the wedge heel. The wedge is my favorite for a full day of walking around, and super cute with shorts or sundresses.

gracie65 Posted February 21, 2012 #42 Share Posted February 21, 2012 I love Rainbows or Reefs. Most comfortable flip flops ever made imho!!! They do stretch and only come in full sizes no halfs. I am a 8.5 so I drop to the 8, this was after buying 9's and realizing how bad they stretch.
magandab Posted February 21, 2012 #43 Share Posted February 21, 2012 I have very bad feet, and have had multiple surgeries to one of them. I found these before a Med cruise a couple of years ago and wore them everywhere, including the 5K On Deck for the Cure on HAL. I am always attracted to Merrils but find they are too wide for my narrow foot. http://www.keenfootwear.com/us/en/product/ss12/shoes/women/blvd/sarasota/bison
planktin Posted February 21, 2012 #44 Share Posted February 21, 2012 I was about to jump in and recommend this brand. I have two pairs of Earthies and I am in LOVE!!! Since having surgery for plantar fasciitis (sp?) I thought I'd never wear high heels again. I only wear Earth brand flats and now Earthies. I could stand in them for hours (and have on a couple of occasions). They have wonderful arch support and since my feet are flat, they stretch my arch out and it feels good (to me). I have these: http://www.zappos.com/earthies-lucia-too-black http://www.shoebuy.com/earthies-bali/433283/922209 The first pair I find are a little more comfortable, the heel is about 1/2 in shorter, but I love them both. I highly recommend them. Check Sierra Trading Post and Piperlime sales and clearance, I paid $55 for each pair from those sites (using coupons). :)

joand452 Posted February 22, 2012 #46 Share Posted February 22, 2012 I have to go with the Keens, too. I have flat, narrow feet, and I like that I can adjust the elastics to make them tighter as need be. I really liked the Coronado (thought it was super cute), so when it was on sale at Nordstrom, sent away for a pair. I thought they'd be fine, since I have three other Keen styles. They were not that comfortable for me, so back they went. I've been so disappointed. I have Whisper, Newport and Venice, and just got a Whisper slide for around the pool. I find, even with those, I start to get hotspots (beginnings of a blister), so I've been using the Dr. Scholls version of "Body Glide." It helps with the rubbing of the shoe. I like to embarrass my family by wearing navy socks with my navy Newports in the winter. They're so comfy!
