lynwar Posted February 11, 2012 #51 Share Posted February 11, 2012 Fathercop-Rich-Nice to see you. We were on the Ruby the week before this outbreak. We were glad to be well all week. I still have the button from the inaugural on my dresser. This review has been very good and have been happy to follow it. Good luck and safe travels in the future. Brig273 Posted February 11, 2012 Author #52 Share Posted February 11, 2012 Thanks for your review. I heard about the Crown turnaround and wondered how pax felt about it. Sounds like you made the best of a less than optimal vacation. Kudos to you! Funny thing, I've been on 18 Princess cruises and never had them serve me something I did not order in the MDR, it happening to you and your DH a couple of times on a 5 day cruise just amazes me. But it sounds like you enjoyed it nonetheless, I'll be sure to try the granola next cruise. It was only at breakfast and this has never happened to us before. I think the staff was just frazzled and they were using staff that weren't trained in the areas they were working in. But I did discover the granola! :)
Katie333 Posted February 11, 2012 #53 Share Posted February 11, 2012 Great attitude and review of a not ideal situation. At least Princess is doing right by passengers with a full refund. Surely your next cruise will not be impacted by these circumstances (and with a nice discount, you'll definitely have to get that mini again!). Having sailed with noro that persisted the entire length of the cruise, I know it's crappy, and to lose your itinerary as well, not great. Your review proves that a) with proper precautions you can prevent yourself from catching it and b) having a good attitude especially under bad circumstances allows you to enjoy yourself despite circumstances. :)
fourxk Posted February 12, 2012 #54 Share Posted February 12, 2012 We too were on the cruise to nowhere. We didn't get ill and had a great time despite the circumstances. This was our anniversary cruise(2 yrs). This was my husband's first cruise so he knew no different. The convention center was interesting. It could have been very furustrating but we made light of the situation. My brother-in-law commented "imagine how all those folks in the superdome felt after Katrina. Our situation wasn't bad. The first 2 days were rough as far as service. I think they were down some staff so all the food service was slow. We had a ton of fun in the casino and of course drinks were easy to come by. Dinner service was interesting. We had anytime dining but it was hard to get in. Then Wed night suddenly it was all back to what I remembered. We gave our cabin number and handed a pager. 15 minutes later it went off and we sat down at a table. The prior two nights consisted of long lines and hungry people. You figure from there what happened. We opted to keep our previous flight arrangments. We stayed 2 nights at the Sheraton on the beach. The weather was nasty Thursday and Friday but it was nice to just relax. Truely, the only downside was the constant feeling of impending illness. I am also an RN and know what causes illness. But 2 nights I woke up probably dreaming and was sure I was getting ill. Silly mind does play games. We are in an elite group who was cruise challenged. We are already trying to figure out what our shirts will say when we cruise again. Pass the Purell..........
Palmist Posted February 12, 2012 #55 Share Posted February 12, 2012 Happy Belated birthday and thank you for the long review. You guys sound like you go with the flow so you are OK after this cruise. I'm on the Grand Feb. 25 and wanted to see what you had to say even though it isn't the same ship with the same problem. Myrna
pakarinen Posted February 12, 2012 #56 Share Posted February 12, 2012 We too were on the cruise to nowhere. [...] This was my husband's first cruise so he knew no different. My first cruise also, DW's second. The convention center was interesting. It could have been very furustrating but we made light of the situation. My brother-in-law commented "imagine how all those folks in the superdome felt after Katrina. Our situation wasn't bad. Us too. We were lucky in that we had a "fun" table - not a bunch of grumps. We opted to keep our previous flight arrangments. Princess put us on a US Air flight with a 3-hour layover in Charlotte, NC. DW travels extensively for business though and working her travel magic, she got us on a non-stop on American for no charge. Truely, the only downside was the constant feeling of impending illness. [...] 2 nights I woke up probably dreaming and was sure I was getting ill. Silly mind does play games. I had a little indigestion after eating the bangers and mash at the pub lunch. Scared me for awhile. We are already trying to figure out what our shirts will say when we cruise again. We're thinking something like "Plague Princess 2012 Survivor" or "2012 Puke Princess Voyage to Nowhere".
kathy59 Posted February 19, 2012 #57 Share Posted February 19, 2012 Hi! We were also on this cruise and had a great time. Unfortunately, we did get sick on the last night. I called the dr. about 7:30 that morning and they sent up some pills to help. We were told to stay in our cabin and they would let us know when the ship was cleared of all passengers. Our name, along with 3 others, was called about 12:30 p.m. to disembark. We had drove from Ohio to Florida for the cruise, so we had to find a hotel to spend the next 24 hours recovering. The nurse and crew that met us as we were leaving the ship offered to help with a taxi, etc. but we were ok to take care of it ourselves. We had thought we were so lucky not to get sick for the 4 days that we were on the ship and just happened to get it the last night. We had used the steps instead of the elevators, continuous hand washings and disinfectant hand lotion but just happened to be unlucky. It is a beautiful ship, plenty of shows and activities and we felt the captain and crew did a wonderful job. We will cruise Princess again.
