We always take one. I never stopped to consider if it is "allowed" or not. DH has neck issues also.

Remember, tho...the plug is on the vanity...across from the bed...a hotwater bottle is an acceptable substitute, if you don't want to bring extension cords!

We've taken ours and never had a problem with the ship.

 

I have a notoriously bad back, and can aggravate muscles at any given time. We always travel with the heating pad. The only time we've had a problem while travelling with it was in Europe (Barcelona specifically) at the airport where the screener was completely weirded out by what was in our carry-on. We saw the image on the scanner. It looked like a zig-zag of wires :)

 

We laughed and after opening the bag and explaining/showing what it was (and that it was not an explosive device) we moved right along. ;)

 

Oh yea...you will likley need the extension cord.

And for anyone that may find themselves needing a heating pad on a ship (or forget to bring it), I just wanted to say that I was able to obtain one on Celebrity when my Mom needed it one night. I believe it was through Guest Relations and they asked for a $15 deposit, which was refunded when we returned the heating pad.

I brought a heating pad on the mariner and it was in my checked bags. We did not get our bag and had to go to the security room. They did allow me to keep it but we then had to lug the bag to our cabin.
