Bermuda

I wonder why the larger ships don't tender in Hamilton.

On the Majesty (which was later the Norwegian Majesty and is now sailing with another line), the casino was open in the evenings even though we were docked.

I can't remember what the Nordic Empress did...we're not gamblers so it wasn't something I paid attention to.

On the Majesty we were with another couple and it was a big deal to them that the casino be open every night, which is why I remember that. This was way back in 1997.

I'm glad to know that they now have bus service to the dockyard...that makes it a little more accessible.

During our stay in Bermuda we took the ferry from Hamilton to the Dockyard but decided to return to Hamilton by bus to do something different. The busses are very small because of the very narrow roads and they are crowded because the cruisers are sharing with the locals. The bus will make an untold number of stops and takes forever. If I were doing it again I would take the ferry back to Hamilton from the Dockyard. It is a high speed ferry and holds a lot of people on each run.

With the casino closed three nights out of seven HAL wasn't making enough. I don't know how the other lines make up that lost income.

Yes. You can get schedules on line.

I know X has 2 full seas to reach Bermuda so it's one less night docked. Maybe that's how they do it. I know I did miss having the casino and shops closed.

We cruised to Bermuda this past August and it was WONDERFUL! I specifically picked HAL because it did NOT go to the Dockyard! It was great having the ability to get on and off anytime of the day/night and getting around was VERY easy via the bus system.

We got there just after the bus strike, so we didn't have any problems. We thought the busses were very nice and quite convenient. We did take the ferry once, but it was just 'transportation' whereas the busses are good for 'sightseeing' along the route.

The only downside is that you have to tender into St. George and sometimes you don't make it (but if you don't, HAL will give you a day pass for the bus!)

Overall, I would give it a 11 on a scale of 10!! GREAT GREAT cruise!!
