What is the galley?

Recommended Posts

Have you ever heard the term "Galley Kitchen" in a home advertisement?

That is actually redundant. A kitchen kitchen:p. What they normally mean though is that it is a small kitchen with an efficient use of space like on a small boat such as a sail boat or cabin cruiser.;)

On the ships however they are huge and have cooking capacity aplenty. If you ever get a chance. Take the tour of the galley or the "Behind the Fun" tour. The Behind tour takes you all over the ship, galley, below to laundry and engine control all the way up to the bridge.

On our Valor cruise, there was a free Galley Tour offered on the last sea day. There was a 15 minute presentation by an Assistant MD, and then a walk through from one end of the galley to the other.

There wasn't a whole lot of activity in the galley at that time... but you got an idea of the scope and sequence of the food prep. The presentation before the walk-through was very interesting.
