Last-minute tours available at the port?

OK--who has "winged it" here in Belize and gone with one of the independent tour operators at the port. Where did you go, and what did you pay?

Whe you depart the tender boat, you will see people with signs that point to where they are meeting and also they can tell where you can sign up for a particular tour that vendor is seeking to fill up. Not all excursions offered on the vendors websites are open. But you can ask the people with the meet up signs if there is space available and how much, then decide. You can also head outside the Tourist Village and be inundated with various tours and excursion vendors. You'll need to exercise caution here though as the reps of any tours outsid eof city tours via horse carriage may or may not be reliable.

After having been in Belize only once, I would not want to just wing it. I would go with a company that gets good reviews and has a reputation.

We have been there 5 times +. There are many looking to take you anywhere. The problem comes in when they want the maximum number of tourists. We have agreed to go on a tour; the guy says stand here and I will be right back; he is out there hawking for others and you wait there. After a wait and maybe he does not get the number he needs, alot of time passes. We wound up walking away and he never noticed. I agree that finding a reputable agent is the best way to see Belize or do a ships tour.
