Carnival Sunshine???

It's about time they brought a ship named Sunshine to New Orleans. After all, it's been many years since our singing Governor, Jimmy Davis, wrote and sang our state song, "You are my Sunshine" which I am sure will be their theme song played each time they arrive or depart New Orleans.

You Are My Sunshine

My only sunshine.

You make me happy

When skies are grey.

You'll never know, dear,

How much I love you.

Please don't take my sunshine away

Looking at the picture in the CC news article posted Laura S., is that a waterfall in the Serenity area? The picture is small, so it's hard to tell. While nearly everyone so far has expressed a dislike for the name change, actually the name "Sunshine" is starting to grow on me a little bit. I'll be eager to see the tropical themed decor for the cabins. I know we won't make it to the Mediterranean for the unveiling, but will definitely make plans for a cruise after she's repositioned to New Orleans.

Looks more like a pool or hot tub.

Wow, after looking at the deck plans, I sure hope that it won't be too crowded. That's a lot of additional cabins. There are many times the main show lounge is full, I don't understand why they would remove a whole deck. Adding cabins brings more revenue, maybe they don't care about crowding as long as they have more money coming in. The aft show lounge was the comedy club, right? I don't see if they've moved it or if it will be in the main lounge now. I have good eyes and it's VERY hard to see anything on those puny deck plans on Carnival's site. Anyone with a better link?

And somebody please tell me what's going on on the Promenade deck with that funny shaped thing going through the middle. Used to, the casino was on one side with a walkway down the other. Now is the casino going to be on both sides? The starboard doesn't specify what that space is going to be. I sure hope they don't make us walk right down the middle of the casino. First, the cigarette smoke will be coming from both ways now and 2nd I don't want to bring my kids through it. The Promenade walkway is always very crowded and it looks like they've made all the walkways too narrow. Was the midship restaurant always 1 deck? Blasted tiny print, I can't read anything.

Serenity deck looks great. My daughter will love the waterworks. Where is the mini golf going to be, did I overlook it?

OK, I just can't keep silent on this.

What dope smoking, tofu eating, tree hugging middle aged hippy beard came up with this beauty of a new name for the Carnival Destiny?

Will tie dye be mandatory on elegant night?

Will the house band be The Grateful Dead?

Will the funnel be reshaped into a peace sign?

Will there be a vegan specialty restaurant?

Having you decide the name for the ship would be like your next door neighbor deciding what to name your children...LOL....Dennis

It's not as silly as Norwegian Breakaway.

I thought that one was stupid as well.

Jocularity about the horrible name aside, As the first cruise ship in the world over 100,000 tons the Destiny is historic.

Renaming the Destiny would be like Apple renaming the iPod. It is a terrible Corporate decision.

akin to 'new coke'....

True, I can put up with a lot to be able to cruise at low prices!!!

That is exactly what CCL markets to and counts on.

Sounds like the name a kindergarten student would give a ship. Maybe "the beards" no longer have beards... just milk mustaches. ;)

I really liked the name Destiny....a lot. I think CCL ships have pretty awesome names...is this new name just more reflection of the direction they are headed???

Sunshine sounds so...childish and wimpy doesn't it??? Who wants to sail on a ship with a wimp name???? It's like The Good Ship Lollypop...Oh I probably shouldn't have said that....They might think Lollypop is a great name for the next ship

:p

My guess? They let Healds kid rename her. :p

Just asked my toddler what he would name a Carnival ship. He said the Carnival Wiggles.

(He's a bit addicted to that show )

Getting rid of the aft deck and replacing it with a three level adults only pool on Serenity. That sounds good.

The aft deck on the lido looks like it will have more sitting for buffet eating. The additional restaurants also will take some of the people away from the buffet and reduce the line ups there.

Destiny will be stripped down to the bare metal, and rebuilt. The new name makes sense if you realize how much of a change it will go through.

Sure. Just like they've been saying about the SS United States. Strip her down and rename her. Makes so much sense!

Stripping her down and making her fabulous is all the more reason to keep the name Destiny.

Sunshine is just so wrong.

It's like whatever celebrity named her kid Apple.

Who names their kid after a piece of fruit???

You just don't name a SHIP 'Sunshine'

That name is for boats.

At least NCL can blame their passengers for that one, since they held a name the new ships contest.

I believe their other new ship coming out in 2014 will be named NCL Getaway.

That and a lot of first time cruisers who would not know the difference. That seems to be the new attitude of the mass market cruise lines today. I just looked at some of the cabins being added. It looks as though many of those cabins will triples or quads. I can see upwards of almost an extra 500 guests added to the ship after the revitalization.

What gives me the giggles is the fact that we knew about the "news" before all the people on the Bloggers 5 cruise right now. :p:D And I am sure they are oohing and aahing over the wonderful name CCL picked!

There were some fabulous names submitted for that ship by thousands of people...and they chose Breakaway...

I rolled my eyes the day they chose it and I will roll my eyes every time I see the name.

It sucks.
