Which is the best month in Alaska for animal viewing?

We are planning an Alaskian cruise. Can anyone share with us the best month to see the bears and other animals out of hibernatin?

 

Has anyone experienced the dog sledding excursion? What about the jeep & canoe adventure?

 

What is the best ship of NCL for an Alaskian cruise & why?

Whales and other marine mammals can be seen all summer. Best chance for bears is late July on when they are on the salmon streams.

 

The Star is cruising Glacier Bay this summer. That would be my choice.

WE went July 31 and the weather was perfect and we saw tons of whales and porpoises and seal lions and birds and others. Didn't see any bears tho.

For any significant wildlife viewing TOURS are necessary. Chance sightings are brief and rare. I like mid to late August, especially in Denali Park- which is the highlight and cheapest option for varied land animals. Whales are seen all season, and my top recommendation for marine wildlife are the at least 6 hour on the water Kenai fjords boat tours.

 

For the cruise selection- many factors come into play. Ports, time in ports, route, glacier, price. Take some time and read this board, plenty of first hand information.

We were in Denali early August last year and saw them all! Eagles, Dahl sheep, grizzlies, moose, caribou, ptarmigan, and a wolf (no lie). At one point the driver of the bus had to stop because a lone caribou was walking up the road toward us. (The animals always have the "right of way".) I was lucky enough to be on the side of the bus where the caribou passed by and got an awesome close up picture. We were all like a bunch of kids.

 

Denali was the highlight of our trip! We were very fortunate to have great weather, lots of wildlife to see and a tremendous bus driver (very entertaining & most knowledgeable).

 

We did the Celebrity Summit cruisetour (5 nights on land) Anchorage to Fairbanks. Just awesome!
