If you joined the ship on the 2nd day on purpose

Hi all, We are joining our cruise on the 2nd day in Naples so we can enjoy a 5 day pre cruise stay in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast instead of leaving from Rome, we have gotten permission from Celebrity to do this via a letter from our TA. Has anyone done this and where there any issues or something you would have done differently? I am having nightmares that when we get to the ship no one knows anything and they gave our cabin away LOL.

Thanks in advance.

What a great idea. Have never done this but if you have a letter from Celebrity saying it is OK, then go for it. People get on and off the ship at every stop. Most are entertainers that come and go but some are employees so we see luggage being loaded and unloaded all the time.

Let us know how it turns out. We may want to do that at some time in the future.

I am sure the ship is well versed in what to do here. They often have people joining the cruise on Day 2 because of missed flights so they will have a process

Might be an idea if your travel agent contacts special services to get some guidance for you as to who you have to report to at the port as you will not have a sea pass card to get onto the tender - if I recall correctly Sorrento is a tender port operated by the ships tender which will make it easier as you will not have to debate with port authorities just the ships people

We did this in Nice and they were fully prepared. The problem was we were nervous as the weather had turned really bad and imagined that they would miss the port because it was a tender port and we would be left standing at the pier as they sailed by. :)

In the end, when we got there, they had our names on a clip board and we were escorted to our room and had to do some paperwork having to do with the life boat drill. I believe we had to review and sign that we knew what to do in the case of an emergency and that our muster station location had been explained.

Don't worry...you will be fine.

Haven't done this, but did jump ship with permission to stay a night in Florence and rejoin ship in Civitavecchia. They were very organized about it. Front Desk knew beforehand and called us asking to come down with our passports. They are used to handling this all the time....I asked at the desk and they said five other cabins were doing the same thing. When we re-entered ship at Civitavecchia our cards caused the security machine to signal that they should get someone "special" from either guest relations or security (can't remember which department). Waited a few minutes off to the side, the person came and ok'd us - and we were back on the ship.

Since you won't have your cards I imagine it will be a case of just coming aboard with your luggage and waiting for the "person" and getting sea cards made.

I love your idea - the Amalfi is an area that we would love to spend more time....from now on I'll have to look a little harder at the Rome round trips.

Thanks for all the feedback, but still looking for someone who has actually done what we are doing.

I believe nps001 did do this and responded to your question...
