Shopping in Barcelona

Recommended Posts

I am one of those Born To Shop people. I am very interested in what kind of items are worth shopping for in Barcelona. Would it be leather, wine or something else that Spain is noted for.Could you suggest any stores in the Las Ramblas are to look in?

Appreciate all suggestions!

The shops on Las Ramblas have the typical assorted tourist junk...but fun to visit anyway...

We found one shop on the way from Las Ramblas into the Gothic Quarter that sold only Gaudi reproductions and Gaudi-inspired pieces...We bought picture frames there as gifts...A typical neat item is one of those Gaudi Lizards in miniature...

Actually, the best place for a shopaholic is the El Corte Ingles Department store...You'll find it on the East side of the Placa Catalunya (the head of Las Ramblas)...it's a full city block and on 12 levels...We actually found a lot of stuff here that we also saw at small shops--but at cheaper prices!! We bought Jewelry here for our daughters...and souvenir Barcelona T-shirts as well...

These stores are all over Spain .. They have EVERYTHING. In Barcelona the bottom floor is a market ( so you can buy wine, alcohol cheap)..
I bought some Paella pans.. just had to have them! Oh the stuff we bring home from our trips

The leather is very very nice...coats,shoes and bags.
Ceramics..anything Gaudi is fun.
I like the street vendors as well for some items as they are fun.
Anything that you see and you like!!!

Shopping is fun, but if you are looking for bargains you need to really educate youself on the stateside prices. Because the dollar is so darn weak against the Euro (we are talking about a 30% drop from just a few years ago) many European products are actually cheaper at home. I could tell you some tales about European friends that buy their European clothes in New Jersey, when on trips to New York City.
