Archaegeo Posted March 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2012 Just walked off the ship I am sitting at the Fort Lauderdale airport now. Express walkoff had me off the ship by 615 at the airport by 630 a simple and easy process if you can tow you're own luggage. I will post a full review later, but for now here are some of my initial thoughts… The entertainment on the Royal Caribbean line, or at least on the oasis of the seas, is far superior to any other line I have cruised on. Without exception all of the shows were professional and really entertaining. We did not go to the headliner show as it was a Franki Valley tribute band and we did not understand the reasoning for that at the peak of spring break. As for food, if you have the chance to do the chefs table which is limited to 14 people per night, do not pass it up. It is a new chef now, and the new menu, but was fantastic and a really great way to start our cruise as we did it on the first evening. Chops Grill was our second favorite restaurant, and CP 150 was somewhat of a letdown. The cucumber Martini at CP 150 is fantastic like everyone says but the menu at self did not really impress us. The main dining room service was great but the food there was just okay. The biggest letdown about the ship is probably the casino. The slots seemed extra tight and the craps table only had single odds it just seemed like that odds favoring the house is not enough for Royal Caribbean. The only time the ship really felt big is if you try to walk down one of the state room hallway they just never seem to end. One surreal moment for us, Michelle Kwan and Greg Louganis were on board filming commercials for RCL and enjoying the cruise themselves. Coming back from labadee we got to see Greg Louganis do an inverted half pipe with a twist from the 10 m platform. The man is 52 years old and still letters the water without a splash and can still wear a speedo. All in all a fantastic cruise and I have to agree that the oasis of the seas is probably one of the most fun ships I've ever sailed on. Now I am off to the celebrity eclipse in Miami to board in a couple of hours and get a vacation from my vacation. While celebrity might not have the entertainment level or all of the activities of Royal Caribbean and the oasis at least the service is far superior in my opinion and of course it's a very relaxing atmosphere. DonnaK Posted March 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2012 Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Too bad you didn't see the Frankie Valli tribute band. They were on our Explorer New Year's cruise, and they do an adaptation of the Broadway show Jersey Boys. Some of the performers are the original Broadway cast. It was wonderful fun, and totally exceeded our expectations!

Oasis is a great ship. Enjoy your second cruise as Celebrity is more sedate. I find the service just about the same on both lines....Just my opinion. :D

PC168 Posted March 24, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2012 Hi Archaegeo, Welcome back! Knowing there are already tons of threads talking about MDR menus but I just want to refresh again. Are the MDR menu still the same or close: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=24317672&postcount=3 As just like others, we like to pick one of the night for the chop grill but not sure if we should pick the MDR Asian night 5 as the Asian food is the least that we are interested in. Thanks in advance or if you have scan the MDR menu that would be wonderful or if you still remember which night was the Asian Duck night.
Archaegeo Posted March 24, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted March 24, 2012 Yes I went to the Fort Lauderdale airport to catch the go shuttle service to Miami port. This cost me $12 for the taxi to the airport and $23 for the shuttle to the port of Miami. Sorry I do not have the Main dining room menus. We did not see which night was the night because we missed it three nights with specialty restaurants.
