lindasuej Posted March 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2012 Warning !!!!! for those driving south to the cruise: March 12, 2012 Southbound Interstate 75 closed at Jellico Anonymous The Times-Tribune The Times-Tribune Mon Mar 12, 2012, 08:14 AM EDT CORBIN — Special to The Times-Tribune Southbound Interstate 75 is closed just across the Tennessee line and traffic is being diverted onto U.S. 25W at the Jellico exit (Tennessee Exit 160) due to a sinkhole that has developed 17 miles south. Motorists not transporting wide loads will be able to follow US 25W to LaFollette, where they can return to I-75 at Exit 134. Motorists transporting wide loads will be required to take Tennessee State Route 297 to its junction with Tennessee State Route 63, then back onto I-75. Tennessee Department of Transportation officials say there is no timetable for repairs at this time. Thought this might be helpful. Linda

Redbarnphotog Posted March 26, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 26, 2012 Awwww man.....I'm driving to Gatlinburg tomorrow night! 75 all the way from Cincy to there. At night, with me as the only person over 13 so no help with reading detour signs. Sounds like we're in for a treat of a detour.

Redbarnphotog Posted March 26, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 26, 2012 yeah, looks like it's going to add an extra hour on to the drive. May try to rework my schedule tomorrow to leave earlier.
garycarla Posted March 26, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2012 Thanks so much but was hthis just for March 12? Most state DOT (dept of transportation) have a web page with highway updates. Any trip over a few hours and we check it before hitting the road.

sjbdtz Posted March 26, 2012 #10 Share Posted March 26, 2012 For anyone else who doesn't know where Hwy 75 is, it runs toward Georgia, from Detroit area. So if you're on the East Coast, this doesn't apply. If you're going to New Orleans, don't worry. .

pappagene Posted March 26, 2012 #12 Share Posted March 26, 2012 If you are driving south on I-75 through Tennessee here is a link to our Department of Transportation (TDOT) on the current situation north of Knoxville. http://news.tn.gov/node/8534 Just a warning to go prepared to slow down and be patient. We have rock slides and sink holes all the time in East Tennessee. We have a lot of limestone caves which create them quite often. Gene

Redbarnphotog Posted March 27, 2012 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Just made the drive yesterday and I-75 is open. It is down to one lane each way for about 5 miles just over the TN state line from KY but it is open, there is no detour. You can see where the sinking is happening on the ridge where the guardrail is haning.
