cb at sea Posted March 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2012 You should never buy stock unless YOU feel it's a good INVESTMENT.....stock prices can rise...or fall to nothing...you could lose your investment. You don't buy stock for the "perks"...you buy for the long-term investment potential. If you feel assured that RCI stock will rise in the future, then buy it. If you just want a discount....consider the money you save from buying the stock to be your "discount".
negc Posted March 27, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Purchasing a cruiseline stock based on the fact that you cruise frequently probably isn't high on the list of good reasons. Especially since they have limited the combinability of the OBC that stock ownership brings. If purchasing 100 shares of the stock isn't going to have a major effect on your investment portfolio and you have sufficient discretionary income, go ahead, but you really shouldn't be looking on these boards for sensible financial advice.Consult with a competent financial planner who can review your situation and provide you with sound advice.:)
jd1966 Posted March 27, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 27, 2012 RCL was a good buy about a year and a half ago when it was selling for $5.00 a share! Buying stock for the benefit seems like a waste/risk when there are other ways of getting OBC's. They also don't let you combine other OBC's with the Stockholder benefit. FLACRUISER99 Posted March 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Is RCL stock worth it with the rules of when u can use it we are inside cabin people I think you are better off with CCL if you are buying it just for OBC. You can combine CCL with FCC,s.
Sequim88 Posted March 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 27, 2012 I think you are better off with CCL if you are buying it just for OBC. You can combine CCL with FCC,s. I have not watched it close but I know CCL got hit pretty hard by the Costa incidents and is at or near a 52 week low. Might be worth a gamble on a bounce but the following article has some interesting insights on costs and profitability of these two cruise lines. http://seekingalpha.com/article/458121-2-cruise-ship-stocks-to-sink-or-sail?source=yahoo As noted above the OBC angle for either line probably does not justify the cost of the potential loss. If you bought $3K of stock and it went down 50% you would have to take 15 cruises to break even. Of course it might also go up but then the reason for investing is totally different from the OBC benefit.
