cruise1985 Posted March 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Hi all, Currently booked in an oceanview, but would like to upgrade to a balcony cabin. If you could choose between (1) aft balcony on upper, (2) forward balcony on empress in a connecting cabin, or (3) midship balcony on upper or verandah which would you pick, and why?? It will be our 1st balcony and past cruises were midship OV, but on the Fascination. I've heard empress is best because it's between two floors of rooms, but I'm concerned about noise from a connecting cabin. I'm leaning towards option #1, but it looks like room will be above the piano bar/victoria aft lounge, so also concerned about noise there. Thanks!! Rare crewsweeper Posted March 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Midship verandah if no higher than 8288 (port) or 8289 (starboard). Between two decks of cabins Empress and Lido cabins. Midship typically has more stable ride. Note higher numbers are underneath the Lido activity, pool, buffet, etc. Second choice Empress. All a connecting cabin is there's a door that can connect to the next cabin, similar to doors that connect rooms in hotels. Noise from next cabin could or could not be an issue in any cabin you are in regardless of deck. Depends on your neighbors. Aft upper is above the lounge. ferfoodle Posted March 28, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 28, 2012 I recommend going to cruisedeckplans dot com and using the feature drag ships. Load the Liberty and then look at where each of those cabins are located. Midship Verandah or Upper should be all right as long as they are not below the Lido pool area or starboard above the Casino area. The pool deck area gets lots of chair scraping and the Casino starboard area has live bands late at night. Empress has nothing but cabins above and below, but that far forward might get rocking and rolling and swaying and you get the picture - some like it, but not me. gail811 Posted March 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Midship Verandah. Even if you have chairs scraping overhead it won't be during the period of time you are trying to sleep. You can count on the clubs being loud until at least 1 AM, and I have heard that with a connecting you can hear everything going on next door. Kidsgoneletscruise Posted March 28, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 28, 2012 We were in cabin 8292 on Liberty. Room was clean, balcony was awesome, very little noise from the hallway, NO noise from above or below decks. I'd book that cabin again in a heartbeat! :D
serene56 Posted March 28, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Midship Verandah. Even if you have chairs scraping overhead it won't be during the period of time you are trying to sleep. You can count on the clubs being loud until at least 1 AM, and I have heard that with a connecting you can hear everything going on next door. That would depend on where that cabin is located. There is a lot of traffic in the Pizza kitchen after bars close. There is also a midnight mexican party one night too. Be mindful of whats above or below you. Dining room is carpeted so that is not a noise issue. My favorite cabin on that class is 7411. no across the hall neighbors. (its where they store the fire dooor) close to the stairs elevators. Up two decks for food/pools down 2 decks for entertainment
cruise1985 Posted March 28, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Thanks for all the suggestions! A lot to think about, but have to move quickly because this is for an April 2012 cruise and there are not many options in each location. I think all the "good" Verandah balconys are gone (8401, 8405, 8409 are available). If it matters, the aft upper option is above the piano bar, not the lounge. The Empress option is WAY forward 7212. I'll report back with what I choose and after the cruise with my experience.
gail811 Posted March 28, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Any of those three will be fine. The seating by the burrito bar are stationary picnic tables. I ate many breakfast burritos there! I doubt there will be much noise above those cabins.
ferfoodle Posted March 28, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Pick one of those on the Verandah. Above the piano bar that runs till the wee hours of the morning is going to be loud.
chazzeek Posted March 28, 2012 #10 Share Posted March 28, 2012 Doesn't look like you said, but if its just two in the room my favorite is the L shaped rooms on deck 6. same category as the adjacent balcony rooms, but you get a bigger balcony, and we like the layout of the room more. the down side is that you don't get a couch. 6442 6450 6473 6481

FountainHillsCruiser Posted March 28, 2012 #12 Share Posted March 28, 2012 We are booked in connecting balcony rooms on the Spa deck on Liberty. I did lots of research and determined this is probably the best for us. Quiet floor, access to Spa facilities and NO SMOKING on the balconies!! Crazy4Koko Posted March 28, 2012 #14 Share Posted March 28, 2012 best balcony is the one I'm in. :D that said, I'm in 6481 in October..and TOTALLy excited for my second premium balcony! We went starboard as opposed to port side because of the lounge underneath and stage area on that side of the ship... On the Freedom, we were mid ship deck 8 in a balcony..8284 great location as well... close to elevators, but not so close to get chatter from guests as they came off and headed to their rooms! chazzeek Posted April 10, 2012 #16 Share Posted April 10, 2012 How is the noise from the lounge below on these cabins I have 6450 booked for our Oct 2013 B2B I don't remember ever hearing anything. I think it helps that the comedy club is in the main lounge back there at night. I don't think the comedians are as loud as having a band playing back there. I will say though that you will get a wake up call when pulling into port. when although normal engine noise and vibration is pretty minimal in those rooms, when the side thruster fire to move along a pier, it is very noisy.
