New Smoking Policy
As an on again off again smoker, is it really so terrible to go up a deck and smoke so people can eat without the smoke?

I dont see the issue. Its not like you can light up and smoke in the lunchroom at work. Why should it be such a issue on a cruise ship ?

Feel free to flame me...
I won't flame you, I agree with you. I smoke have for a long time. I do not now or in the past smoke around food. I don't like smoke in my face when I eat and try to treat others the same way. As you said, I have to go to a smokers area at work and outside if we go out to a bar or dinner. And I do not smoke in my cabin now or ever.

Now if I could just get people to stop bathing in strong perfumes I'd be a happy camper (cruiser).
Man Oh Man another smoking vs non smoking thread. Soon it will be if your perfume stinks and you had beans for lunch you can't use the elavators. If i walk out of the elavator laffing yes I had beans for lunch. LOL
Yep I'll be the first one. People there is nothing wrong with a bit of cologne or perfume, on your wrists, behind your ears. However, if I can smell you 10 feet away and I am not down wind of you. You are using too much. What smell are you hiding. And the beans thing. If you walk out laffing when I walk in, I will find you and set my DH in your direction, paybacks you know.

I was on the Liberty in February just after they made the impromtu change in the smoking area. I can see why some would get upset.

If they booked the cruise and the contract stated they could smoke on the smoking side of the Lido, and then after final payment when they could not cancel the rules changed, they had every right to be upset. If they want to implement this, they need to make the change as they did when they changed the smoking policy fleet wide, (eg. All ships with 2.0 upgrades will not allow smoking on the Lido decks after _____date.), not when one ship decided to change the rules overnight. In my opinion, they breached the contract.

Secondly, in their haste, they moved a few chairs and a couple of small tables to deck 10 in an uncovered area exposing smokers to rain, wind, and direct sun. There was actually chair hogging going on and most had to stand to smoke.

Last but certainly not least, there were sometimes no ashtrays in the smoking area. When they were removed to be emptied they were not returned. Smokers would go to deck 9, secure an ashtray at the bar, and return to deck 10. I actually on two different occaisions saw smokers throw their butts overboard rather than go get an ash tray. Not good!!

This ship was so uptight about smoking that I actually had a run in with the a slot machine attendant. I was playing three card poker at a non smoking table and got up to have a quick smoke leaving my money at the table. I sat at a slot machine in a smokers area in view of my chips and the attendant almost ran to to tell me I couldn't unless I was playing that machine. I told him I was playing, my money was right over there, and he continued to argue. I could understand it if someone was waiting for the machine but there was no one else around me.

I did have a great cruise, don't misunderstand, but this was just a bit over the top in my opinion. Carnival really needs to rethink this before someone starts a fire or smokers choose to take their money and leave the casino every time they want to smoke. Chances are they wouldn't come back.

I hear you there. I have a lady at work that wears so much perfume she would make a french whore's eyes water.

It isnt even a good scent, it smells like a skunk attacked a Lilac bush.

What a mess, and a safety hazard. Have you shared your feedback/input with anyone at Carnival? Both "sides" should be able to voice their concerns & opinions.;)
