What are the chances that I will be able to rent a car in Skagway after I get there instead of pre-renting?

 

I read on a post about a ferry to Haines. How much does this cost. We will be in Skagway for 8 hours. Is that long enough to go to Haines?

Probably not much luck in renting a car in Skagway on the spur of the moment. That seems to be a popular choice this year. As to going to Haines, yes you can do it. We had friends who took a wildlife excursion there last year and loved it. I don't know what the ferry costs if you don't book through the ship or if the ships book most of the available seats for their excursions. It seems that I read somewhere on these threads that it is hard to get a seat on the ferry when ships are in port.

No chance for a rental car without reservations. Haines' wildlife is eagles, poor chance of much else. The ferry is about $45++??? Determine if Haines is of interest for you. Request their visitor guide. http://www.haines.ak.us/
