Bus to Tarquina

Hi

We'd like to visit Tarquina by bus from Civitavecchia. I can see this is achievable but I wonder if anyone could assist me further please?

I specifically need to know where the bus leaves from in Civitavecchia and whether it is possible to buy tickets on the bus. Some posts suggest there is a tourist information office near the port gates - is this accurate?

Thank You in anticipation

Ros

There is an information office right near the exit of the port, where the port shuttle bus drops you off. If you can't puchase COTRAL tickets there you'd be able to buy them in a tobacco shop near the bus stop. I've never tried to buy one on a COTRAL bus so I don't know if that's possible.

You can get the bus at Piazza Vittorio, which is only a few blocks from the port entrance. On this map (http://efa.cotralspa.it:8888/rlz/FILELOAD?Filename=rlz_4F89960D0.pdf) the green box with the walking icon is located at the McDonald's at the port exit.

On page 15 of this attachment (http://www.cotralspa.it/PDF_Orari_Comune/Tarquinia.pdf) you can see the times for departures from Civitavecchia Piazza Vittorio for Tarquinia.

On page 2 of the same attachment you'll see the times for the return buses to Civitavecchia.

Information on tickets is here: http://www.cotralspa.it/ENG/biglietti_abbonamenti.asp

We did this with a group from our Carnival Oct 2011 Magic cruise. Very easy, there was just a little confusion in the beginning finding the right tobacco shop to purchase tickets.

We followed the instructions on this thread that were written by mountainmare.

It was a nice day.

  • 1 month later...

Last week NO newsagent/Tabacchi would sell us a bus ticket (we tried 3 of them including the one on the corner that is often mentioned). There were several people trying. The busdriver would not let us on but thankfully someone spoke Italian and explained the situation. He then sold us tickets at €7pp -these were pre-printed so I'm not sure if he ripped us off or not!
