Rare karatemom2 Posted April 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2012 We are considering the Bear Creek Zipline as an excursion for our day in Ketchikan this summer. We have always wanted to try ziplining and this looks like its pretty first timer friendly. I would appreciate any reviews or comments from those who have done it to help me make my decision. Assateague Island Princes Posted April 16, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2012 Hey Karatemom, I didn't do this excursion, but my niece and her boyfriend who sailed with me last August did. And they LOVED it! Neither had been ziplining before. They shot some great videos of themselves and others who happened to be on the excursion with them (2 other "first timers" who happened to be 73 years old and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary!). So it sounds to me like a fun, adventourous tour even for those who are zip-line virgins. I say give it a shot! What have you got to lose (except a good, healthy fear of heights and some $$$$:p), right?
treinke Posted April 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2012 We booked this excursion directly with them. They have a coupon I one of the coupon books with buy one and get one free. That alone was worth the price of the book. Really looking forward to it.
JAKcruiser Posted April 17, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2012 My son and I went on this excursion last June. We had never been ziplining before. It was a highlight of our trip. The facilities, guides, and equipment were all top-notch. We would go again in a second. Have fun!
pamesacruisin Posted April 17, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2012 We want to do this too:D A friend in our group (she's 60ish) is afraid of heights, but really wants to zipline. Are you very high off the ground? Can you control how fast you go?
Rare karatemom2 Posted April 17, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted April 17, 2012 Thanks for the feedback. I think we are going to take the plunge - so to speak! :D
olemissreb Posted April 17, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 17, 2012 You'll have to come back and post about your adventure. We are considering doing this on our trip next year. I'm hoping we'll have enough time to do this and a flightseeing trip to Misty Fjords.
Budget Queen Posted April 17, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 17, 2012 We want to do this too:D A friend in our group (she's 60ish) is afraid of heights, but really wants to zipline. Are you very high off the ground? Can you control how fast you go? With just these general comments, I would say, it may not be for them. I have not ziplined in Alaska, but have in Costa Rica and Haiti. Plenty of high areas, I experienced and speed is needed to get between the platforms. Otherwise, you are pulling yourself hand over hand. I suggest take a few looks at some You Tube videos, and have them look at several. Those give a good, first hand look. I find them a great tour experience, but I have other priorities in Alaska. :) So don't know, maybe I'll fit them in at some point? But my favorite routines- call me again and again. What a problem. :)
