bonnie voyage Posted April 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2012 I do know that some will accept cash - seems to me that a debit card would be just the same. That being said, since you plan to use a debit card. you will want to rent from a reputable company. We rented from Southern Car Rentals - Owen Krifton - and had the option of paying with credit card or cash.
aimodels Posted April 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2012 You do also need a temporary driving permit - $5 USD and the permit is good for 2 months. The rental companies will arrange it for you. Cheers, P:)
BeagleOne Posted April 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2012 I rented with Stoutes. They have a little booth at the cruise port. I got a mini-moke and had a great time. Just be aware that the road signage is almost non-existent and it is VERY easy to get lost even with a good map, and on parts of the island, gas stations are few and far between. However, the locals I asked for help could not have been nicer. Definitely worth doing if you have a sense of adventure!
Aplmac Posted May 13, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2012 Just know that when you get lost and ask for help from locals not many of the 'natives' can read a map, so they won't be able to point out "where you are"... -it's just not a necessary part of the island culture on a small island where local folks know the whole thing in their heads anyway. BeagleOne Posted May 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2012 Actually everyone I showed a map to knew exactly where we were and pointed it out correctly and gave me good directions. I lived on a Pacific island for seven years and the "natives" there had no problem reading maps.
