lcparigi Posted April 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2012 We have reservations for the steak house on the first night on our cruise. How do gratuities work in the steak house? Is it included in the $30 price or do we need to tip on top of that or is it included in our prepaid? Thanks! :)
golfadj Posted April 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2012 A tip of unknown amount is included but they will try and get you to add to it. Do what you feel is correct.
klmorg Posted April 21, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2012 Below is from carnival.com... says gratuity included...but additional grats is optional. The amount included is a very closely guarded secret that no one really seems to know. "The $30 fee includes an appetizer, entrées, dessert and the wait staffs' gratuity; additional gratuities are optional and may be extended in cash or to the guest's Sail & Sign Account, at the guest's discretion." mondello Posted April 21, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 21, 2012 Didn't the PAX on the last Bloggers cruise w/JH post that the included tip amount was indeed 15%? I'd think if anyone can afford the steakhouse they could afford to tip $5-10 if they enjoyed the service.
nwcruiselover Posted April 21, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2012 We always tip an additional $5 per person at the steakhouse. The service has always been excellent and worth the additional $5. Nancy

Quilting_Cruiser Posted April 21, 2012 #7 Share Posted April 21, 2012 If you do a search, you'll find more discussions about steakhouse gratuities than you can imagine! It's qiute the discussion starter. DD and I eat in the steakhouse every cruise, and I generally add $10 since the service has always been excellent. imlulu Posted April 21, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 21, 2012 On the slip it says gratuity optional and a line to include if you wish. We just ate at Nick and Nora's on the Miracle this past week. I thought it was ok, but did not tip extra as the service did not warrant it.
CapsR1 Posted April 21, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 21, 2012 We always tip an additional $5 per person at the steakhouse. The service has always been excellent and worth the additional $5. Nancy We typically do the same thing; about $5 per person in the steak house. The service is typically extraordinary and well worth the couple of extra dollars. Going to dinner in the steakhouse (even though I always order the lobster) is one of the highlights of our cruises with Carnival.
BandM Posted April 21, 2012 #10 Share Posted April 21, 2012 On the slip it says gratuity optional and a line to include if you wish. We just ate at Nick and Nora's on the Miracle this past week. I thought it was ok, but did not tip extra as the service did not warrant it. We ate at David's on the Pride a couple weeks ago; while the food was excellent, the service was really nothing special. We did not leave and extra tip, honestly it was on par with the service in the MDR.

Just curious, how did they try to get you to add to it? Did they come out and ask or hint that they don't get much.
Eeyoregon Posted April 21, 2012 #12 Share Posted April 21, 2012 Sorry for the thread hi-jacking but one quick question re: the steakhouse and dress code for men. Would slacks, dress shirt and tie be sufficient? Or is a jacket/coat required? THANK YOU! Back to your regular programming......:D
