sammiedawg Posted April 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2005 We are planning a day trip from Anchorage to Talkeetna., planning to leave early morning. Any suggestions on how to plan the day? We have heard of Hatcher patch. Is that road a one way dead end or can you get back to Anchorage without backtracking? Would we do Hatcher patch on the drive north or do we do it on the way back? Thanks very much for any ideas.
wolfie11 Posted April 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2005 Hatcher Pass can be done as a loop between Willow and Palmer, but I think part of the loop is dirt, so you take a rental car at your own risk...It is a beautiful drive!!! http://virtualguidebooks.com/Alaska/SouthCentralAlaska/HatcherPassRoad/HatcherPassRoad.html
Budget Queen Posted May 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2005 Hatcher PASS. Actually most rental agencies prohibit non paved driving. So you may be better off getting there from the Palmer side, which is paved to the mine. It won't matter if you go before or after Talkeetna. If you want to tour the mine be aware of operating hours.
