LOL, saw that article this morning. The kicker is that he said that he invited the Chinese navy to escort the Titanic II to New York. Wonder what the US Navy and State Department think about that???? :eek:

If it is a true replica of the namesake in all the passenger areas i would love to sail on the Titanic.

 

Obviously there will be some differences as no one in todays market would want to sail 3rd class. People might belittle Carnival, but who wants to sleep in a bunk bed near the engine room and have portage for dinner.

I don't think I would. Not because of any superstitions, but I am not just the "luxury" type of cruiser.

Interesting and morbid at the same time. Not sure I'd want to embark on anything named "Posiedon II" or "Hindenberg II" either.

Just slapping the name "Titanic II" on a ship does not make it the Titanic II. Not sure anyone would want to sail on an exact replica. Me being 1 of them.

Eh, if there was a raffle for the maiden voyage I might buy a ticket or two, but I wouldn't be paying thousands of dollars to be on THAT maiden voyage!

The whole thing is pretty eccentric, and an EXACT replica is not practical, (steerage, lifeboats, etc.) but it will be cool to see just how close it is.

I've been thru the "Titantic replica in Branson Missouri, which is half the orignal ship built to scale. It's not exactly the Carnival Magic and in my opinion anyone sailing Titanic 2 would not be happy by the time they got to NY. Everything is basic and the cabins very small with bunk beds. At 55k tons the ship would be tiny by todays standards and would probably get tossed around like a cork in a bottle in the North Atlantic.The ignaugral cruise would probably be a success but after the novility wore off I think they would have trouble booking pax.

55 k tons at one time was huge. If the Titanic 2 is built as a true ocean liner with deep draft she will ride fine. Although the passenger spaces might be as the original ship, the engines will not be. would be too expensive to operate as a steamship. coal is out of the picture (cant get it) and a recip engine setup is very inefficent by today's standards.

But Titanic II will be on BLUE Star Line, a line specifically created by this billionaire.

 

I'd consider sailing it, but only after it had been in the water for a while and I had read some reviews. No way I would go on the maiden voyage.

 

Also, the Titanic seemed like a rather dull ship when you get to the bare bones of it. An exact replica would not be my style. I am a waterslides and deck parties type of cruiser.

The White Star Line is still sailing today, but its current name is Cunard which incidently is part of the Carnival Corporation.
