mrsfanci Posted May 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Does anyone know if they have T.V. sports coverage at the Casino Bar? It seems I read this somewhere. I know they don't have the sports bar anymore. Why did they take it out?
Rare Lois R Posted May 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2004 What ship are you asking about? Century has a nice sports bar...called "IMAGES". I watched the NFL playoffs there in January. Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda! See My Century and Mercury Pictures at: http://community.webshots.com/user/lovescruising
Shirley and Les Posted May 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 2, 2004 I think your question is very ship-dependent. I don't think you will find a ship that will allow you to bet on any sporting event. Ship gambling income depends on the machines/tables in the ship casino. For this reason, I don't think the cruise lines are very concerned about keeping up to date on current games, etc. Now, my comments are from a very narrow point of view. The "Celebrity Horizon." I know nothing about the larger ships with more venues. Les
mrsfanci Posted May 2, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Shirley and Les, No, I didn;t mean betting on games. I meant just watching sporting events. Since they took out the sports bar upstairs, I thought someone posted that they showed some sport events at the t.v. in the Casino Bar. I've never sailed on Celebrity so I'm not familiar with the casino set-up but I do spend considerable time there.
mrsfanci Posted May 2, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Lois, Thanks, I forgot the ship. The Summit is the one my husband with me on. He likes sports.
Shirley and Les Posted May 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Sorry Mrs Fanci, I only go to the ship casino for one reason. To bet money on slot machines. I am a graduate engineer and at one time, knew how to count cards on a straight (one or two deck) blackjack deal in Vegas. However, as I matured, I learned that gambling was something I wasn't good at. Watching my next-door neighbor plant a new tree on Saturday morning with his winnings from our Friday night poker game convinced me to stay away from gambling. I love to go into the sports lounges in Vegas and watch every handicapped game in the world. I won't bet on them since I am not smart enough. I have changed my TV viewing habits into only watching teams that I have an interest in. Therefore, Pittsburgh Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins (are you starting to get the drift)??? After all this crap(?), I still don't know if you can watch nationwide or worldwide sporting events while on a cruise. Les

rwb Posted May 2, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 2, 2004 It also depends on where you are. If you're talking about being in Europe or South America, the available satellite channels are not likely to show US sports events. SOuth American satellites reception includes the spanish-language ESPN with Latin-flavored sports events. In Europe there are several sports channels, with US events broadcast fairly rarely.
