Evening Activities For Families

This will be our first visit to Curacao - Carnival Freedom on Wed-Aug 29th from 2 to 11 pm.

We are planning some independent sightseeing and shopping and then dinner back on the ship at 6 pm.

Would like something to do off the ship from approx 8 to 10 pm? We will have teenagers and pre-teens with us, so no bars/clubs.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Deena

I'm curious to see what kind of replies you'll get! We'll be on the Freedom in about 3 weeks and will be in Curacao for those same times. We're planning a walk around town to the historical sites, shopping areas, floating market, etc. Later, we're considering rjstaffel for dinner - Indonesian for "rice table". We're kind of adventurous eaters, have never tried this, and right now that's top of our list for things to do that evening.

I understand the original rjstaffel place has closed but anothe rplace in Willemstad is getting good reviews, Surindo on Hoek Stoppelwig 10. Be curious as to what you think if you try it.

As far as family activites, looks rather sparse after 5 PM when the aquarium closes. Most of the things I've found are nightclubs and casinos.

Surindo is not really a rijsttafel restaurant as their menu is mostly Surinam food. They close at 16.00 p.m., so dinner is out.

To experience the original rijsttafel you can visit Tempo Doeloe (close to the Marriott & Hilton hotels, not to far from the ship by cab).

I also read a post on Trip Advisor that recommended The Boat House on Wednesday nights, when they do Bali Night and serve rijstaffel:

Since we'll be there on Wednesday, this may be what we choose. I'm not sure how far it is from the port though. Will have to research more.

The BoatHouse has beautiful beautiful views. I recommend you get there before sunset and ask for an outside table.

I am not extremely impressed by their rijsttafel, but if you haven't had it before you might not be as picky as I am.

The cab drive there should take about 20 - 25 minutes and will not be cheap. So if you get a group to go with you, you can share the cost and keep your dinner affordable.

If you are docked at Rif Fort, go ashore for ice cream. There's a nice ice cream shop there. Walk around the area lit at night. Some of the shops will be open. I think there were a few shops teens would be interested in.

I have been reading the posts trying to find out if the shops are open late when a cruise ship is in port. This ship will be in port on a Monday, until 11 pm. I want to do the tour and beach activities earlier in the day, then later in the day do the shopping, restaurant, casino, and pub type of thing. Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated.

Some of the shops in Rif Fort will remain open until at least 9 but not all of them.

There are some restaurants, and patio bar areas and there are always folks out and around. We always have dinner ashore and it's delightful walking back through Rif Fort to the ship.
