critcatny Posted May 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2012 I got a list online of the beaches on Barbados and how far they are from the port. We probably would like to walk to one so can anyone tell me anything about the following beaches (water, sand, etc) &/or the walk to them and what you'd see on the way. Thanks. 1) Brandon's Beach 1.2 mi north 2) Brighton Beach 1.5 mi north 3) Boatyard 1.5 mi south 4) Carlisle Bay 1.9 mi south 5) Browne's Beach 2 mi south Thanks again for any information provided. aimodels Posted May 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2012 What exactly are you looking for in a beach?? There is a ton of information here if you're willing to do a little digging. Browne's, Boatyard = Carlisle Bay (same place) Cheers, P:)
Aplmac Posted May 10, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 10, 2012 1) Brandon's Beach 1.2 mi north 2) Brighton Beach 1.5 mi north ________________________________ 3) Boatyard 1.5 mi south 4) Carlisle Bay 1.9 mi south 5) Browne's Beach 2 mi south Brandons and Brighton are all one and the same...and a bit rocky underfoot when swimming. Likewise, your latter grouping of three are all one and the same long curved Carlisle Bay stretch of beach. Carlisle Bay/Boatyard/Lobster Alive/Harbour Lights/Browne's Beach/Whatever else along the strand! is by far a better bet than Brandons/Brighton. Suggest you take the quick and inexpensive taxi ride to Lobster Alive where you can access Carlisle Bay for free -unless you want/need the amenities at Boatyard where they charge a fee to get in or rather thru their establishment to get to the beach. critcatny Posted May 10, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted May 10, 2012 really all we want is a non-rocky beach and smooth bottom, clear blue water. We will only swim and relax there, not much else. Oh and if there are rest rooms that's a plus. Not much else needed. Sounds like the beaches to the south of the port are better than the ones to the north. Guess we'll go south then. Thanks. We always go to the boatyard. Yes you do have to pay to get in, but you get your loungers, an umbrella and one drink for the price plus the use of the facilities. It is usually a fun place and the crew mostly go there too.

Cruisebehindthescenes Posted May 13, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2012 As a former crew member, I always circled our Barbados days on the calendar because I couldn't wait to get back to Boatyard. The entrance fee isn't much and you get a drink or water with your entrance, you also get a free van ride back to the ship when you're ready to leave. And Lobster Alive is right next door, running a similar operation on the beach. An easy situation for lunch...no matter which way you turn! :D Check it.. http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/showphoto.php?photo=19413 .
inai Posted May 14, 2012 #9 Share Posted May 14, 2012 I totally agree, either the Boatyard or Lobsters Alive. Great beaches.
critcatny Posted May 18, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted May 18, 2012 I'm sure they're both great spots. But we really don't drink, but a chair/umbrella and ride back might be worth the price to get in I guess.
critcatny Posted May 18, 2012 Author #11 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Also, in case we decide not to do the return walk, anyone know how much a taxi is from say Lobsters Alive or Boatyard back to ship?
CarolRick Posted May 23, 2012 #12 Share Posted May 23, 2012 Also, in case we decide not to do the return walk, anyone know how much a taxi is from say Lobsters Alive or Boatyard back to ship? It is only a mile or so back to the ship. You can walk it in less than 30 minutes. Cab is about $4 per person...
Kaboochi Posted August 25, 2012 #13 Share Posted August 25, 2012 Can you swim to the turtles from Carisles beach? If so, is the water calm and how far out are they? Thanks
