Gluten Free Diet

My wife is allergic to gluten and must have gluten free meals. Does anyone have experience with how this is handled on Oceania. The cruise line says it is no problem. Is it? What about the specialty resturrants?

On an Oceania ship, we sat with a woman who needed a gluten free diet. She had printed information she had given to the chef, and she said it was working quite well. The waiter brought her a special basket of bread and plate of cookies, but I don't remember if she had brought them on board or if the kitchen had baked them for her.

The process is fairly simple. You let Passenger Services know of the dietary restriction in advance, and then a menu is delivered to your cabin each morning guiding you through that days Grand Dining Room Menues (and a few recommendations for the buffet).

The Specialty Resataurant menues are static, so all of the servers know what the gluten free choices are.

If you require additional assistance, a chef may even be appointed as your designated "advisor".

Contact Special Services dept 60 days prior to your cruise so they will have the required food onboard

As Jim posted they will deliver menus to you the night before so you can choose your meals for the next day

When you go to the restaurants just tell the Maitre'd before you are seated that you have a special meal... they will ask your cabin # and your meal will be served along with your table mates course by course

You can ask in the buffet which items are gluten free if you decide to eat there

One night in Polo a man had not advised them of his special requirements & was overheard by the waitress asking about one of the dishes on the menu...she immediately jumped in and went to check on what meals he could order & returned with a plate of gluten free bread .

The method works for other special diets or food allergies

They do not know if you do not tell them
