Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted May 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2012 We are thinking of booking a cruise Grand European cruise , North Sea to the Black Sea. Does the ship travel a lot during the night ? Or does it travel most of the time during the day ? We are thinking of taking a room in the back of the ship and don't want to here the motors at 1am. paul929207 Posted May 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2012 We did this the other way about 10 years ago and often sailed about 4 or 5am. Don't recall sailing all night
pacmom Posted May 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2012 When we sailed Constanta-Amsterdam--over 2000 miles there was a lot of nite time sailing. It is not possible to sail that far without sailing at nite at lest some of the time. 15 river cruises sailed, 16th in Oct in china. It really is an addicting way to vacation. pacmom Posted May 16, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2012 As I think I said we travelled in the opposite direction. It was for most of the month of August in 2004. We were anxiously awaiting the birth of a grandchild who was due before we left, but you know babies. We were in Budapest when we heard we had a girl grandbaby. The first part of the trip had a good bit of daytime cruising--but little city sites--mostly rural cruising. It was from Budapest on that the scenery was sooo interesting. We were on a Uniworld trip. The maitre'd and hotel manager were replaced after the first part of the trip. It was not that noticible to the pax, but it was behind the scenes stuff. It really is a wonderful way to see Europe.
