Jade13 Posted May 19, 2012 #26 Share Posted May 19, 2012 The exceptions are that it cannot be a group booking and that you cannot use both your Amex and the agent's consortium benefits on the booking. - Bookings from Canada and Puerto Rico travel agencies are not eligible for CPP benefits. - CPP with Celebrity is open only to individual (FIT) bookings. Group bookings are not eligible. This is often the issue. Most travel agents belong to a consortium, which is often how you are getting better group pricing. I mentioned this earlier. The first thing for the OP to do is ask their travel agent the following: 1) Do you belong to a consortium such as "Ensemble"? 2) Am I in a group booking with a consortium? If the OP is already getting group pricing or a consortium benefit they cannot have both. If this is the issue the agent may be able to take them out of the group booking if the AmX benefits would be better.
Mr BowWow Posted May 19, 2012 #27 Share Posted May 19, 2012 Whenever booking a cruise and you have an Amex Platinum, ask the travel agent is he booking you in a group or is it an individual reservation...and ask him if his consortium is giving you any on board credit...then choose if you want Platinum benefits. Remember, most travel agents will give you on board credit up to 10% of the cruise fare. Ask that this be given from gifts and gear so that it goes on as a gift from agency. The benefit is that if you don't use all of it, you will not lose it...it will go to the credit card on the on board account.
astrocat Posted May 19, 2012 #28 Share Posted May 19, 2012 Updating! It was worth a try .. I quickly got through to the Celeb Am Ex desk so at least did not spend $$$ on a toll call and discovered that the benefits are only available to Am Ex Platinum cards issued in the US, so there you go! No worries, we are still very happy with the countdown to our cruise. Lingber, see you on board!
