First ever post! Question about the Epic - drinks and poker

Hello! Can I just say what a useful site this is, I have been trawling through and found so many answers to the questions in my head - thank you!

I know as first posts go this probably isn't showing a very good example of me as a person, but I'm quite wholesome really!

1. Is there anywhere I can find out the drinks prices on board the Epic, or has anyone got a rough idea just so we can work out spends (e.g. Pint of lager, spirit and mixer, latte?)

2. Do they run poker tournaments, or is it just cash tables? What are entry fees/blinds? I'm guessing it's likely to be mostly cash, $1/2, $4/6, $5/10.

Thanks in advance!x

Welcome to Cruise Critic! I am pretty sure there are tournaments but maybe some others will chime in. Beer should run you about $5.75 + the automatic 15% gratuity. There is also a buy five, get the sixth one free bucket of beer special.

most bottled beer onboard is in US 12 ounce bottles vs the 20 ounces in the English pint.. Some of the US beer is now on board ships in 16 ounce aluminum bottles, but you probably won't want to drink the US beer that comes that way. Beer on tap can come as 12 ounce glass or a pint.

here is a link to a recent post that has some pages of the bar menu (see post #3 in that thread)

in that post, beer in 16 oz containers is $5.50 US, that in 12 ounce containers is $4.95 US..both will have 15% auto tip added to your bill.

As for poker, my last two cruises (Alaska on the Pearl in '09 and Western Caribbean on the Sun last year) had two tournaments each. The first was on the first sea day at 2pm and the second was later in the week.

Buy-in was $60 and rebuy (for the first hour only) is also $60. There is an option to buy another 4000 chips for another $60 at the end of the first hour, after which there are no more rebuys.

I won two of the four and placed third in another. Looking forward to the Epic in November to see if I can keep the streak alive! ;)

Live games are held whenever there is enough people to play, with a $60 buyin. The rake is higher than land-based casinos (so I'm told), but not too bad. Usually, it's $1/2, but can be changed if the players want. I don't play cash games too often - too unpredictable!!

Thank you for the link and information - that's really useful. It's not that our whole trip is dictated by drinking and poker, but maybe a few drinks and a few games of poker so it's good to know what to expect to work out our personal itinerary!x
