NewYawkYankees Posted May 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2012 I'm looking to book a cruise on the Enchantment (post-renovation) and am wondering if there will anything to do for an 18 year old? He will be too old for the teen club, too cool to hang with mom/dad and too poor for the casino! There will be several sea-days, so I'm concerned that he'll be bored for majority of the cruise. Has anyone been on the Enchantment with an 18 year old?
sherryf Posted May 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2012 No experience with Enchantment, but I do have experience with taking an 18 year old on a cruise. We went to Alaska on the Golden Princess last summer with my kids, 12, 15 and 18 at the time. I was a bit concerned about my 18 year old having fun, but I shouldn't have worried. He managed to make friends with several other kids his age within the first couple of days, and they hung out together the whole cruise. He still keeps in touch with most of them via Facebook, etc. He had a great time on our cruise!
cb at sea Posted May 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2012 He won't need to "hang" with you, but he will do whatever the adults do...he IS an adult! He will quickly find others of like ages...they'll be fine!!!
onthelake Posted May 25, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2012 It does depend on where/when you cruise. If you are going at a popular time, no problem in meeting other 18 -20 year olds. If you sail like we did, in Oct/Nov, things were a bit lonely for my DS. He loves cruising so he kept busy but on one cruise, he was the only person between 18 and 20. It does not matter too much if you have a lot of port days.
Cruisebehindthescenes Posted May 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2012 There will most likely be plenty of others in the same situation. As long as your son isn't too shy, he shouldn't have an issue.
NewYawkYankees Posted May 28, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted May 28, 2012 Thanks for the information. We're going during the Presidents Week break, so I'm sure he'll find others his age to hang out with. But my concern was really around the lack of activities on this particular ship. No basketball court, no mini golf. And the pool would be too cold for the beginning and end of the cruise.
