KEY WEST -- May 27, 2012

Four men are safe aboard a Disney cruise ship after being rescued from a small raft near Key West.

Crew members of Disney Fantasy spotted the men who were signaling for help.

The Fantasy was sailing from Port Canaveral to Grand Cayman.

The men were provided with medical attention and food.

The U.S. Coast Guard was contacted.

There is no word on why the men were on the raft.

The article doesn't say but the "rescued" men will be repatriated back to Cuba where they will probably be imprisioned for leaving the island without permission.

The US policy is that Cubans may only seek refugee status if they are on U.S. dry land.

A little off topic, but given the living conditions in Cuba and the fact that they were trying to escape on a "raft", imagine their reaction on being brought onboard an opulent cruise ship like Fantasy.

Gee, I wonder? Maybe it was to escape totalitarian oppression, and/or grinding poverty?

What poverty? The government has allowed them to own toaster ovens so it's all paradise now.:rolleyes:

We were on this cruise and watched the rescue... It made for some interesting conversations around the lunch tables (it was on day two of the cruise around lunch time) Never a dull moment on the Fantasy. :).

Did you take any pictures you could share?
