We got caught!

Recommended Posts

Smuggling booze is one of those subjects that kills me.

For whatever reason, its not allowed but people give all sorts of rationalizations to justify doing it. Me personally, I could care less one way or the other - it doesn't bother me unless it directly affects me.

But many people who smuggle and cut down those that point out that its not allowed also ream out CHOG's. Or people not appropriately dressed for the MDR. Or babies in the pool. Etc, etc, ad nauseum

Guess they are just selective in which rules apply........

BTW - I have never considered smuggling. I'm a beer drinker ;-)

The cruise lines high prices encourage smuggling. They should lower their prices and there would be a lot less of it. High prices are what injure their stockholders.

You took the words right out of my mouth! :) I totally agree.

What I love is when people say they smuggle several bottles of booze and then say their bar bill was still quite high. Wow. Do you really drink THAT much???? How do you even remember the cruise? lol

DH and I really don't drink much. We may have two or three drinks each during a week long cruise. (And before any of you jump on me for not making the cruiseline any money, I love the casino... lol. That is where my money goes.)

The high drink prices bother me, but the fact that there is no little alcohol in them bothers me more. It I'm paying $10 for a mohito, please put some rum in it.

Agreed.

I bought one vodka martini on my last cruise and it was weak. How the heck do you make a weak martini?

Yep, DH and I had our booze confiscated by Carnival while on the Pride last week out of Baltimore. We had packed plastic botttles in a carry on which we checked, but I guess it was too heavy and they inspected it, took out the booze and sent the suitcase to our room with a note inside sayng we could pick up our package on the day we leave. Oh, well. It was a very expensive cruise!!

I am sure happy they caught you !!! My stock was up 31 cents yesterday !!!:D:D

I would suggest taking this to your research and development department to devise a more successful method of transporting your imbibable liquids.;)

It is those old quiet sneaky ones with fake colostomy bags and fake catheter bags who never get caught !!!

As a CCL shareholder and CEO of my household, I find it monetarily beneficial to my company to attempt to skirt certain rules when possible as the impact on each is drastically different and in my favor. It's a lot like the banking industry does on Wall Street. You have to learn from the best.

Sorry you got caught. We were on the same cruise, there were 21 of us, and nobody was caught. I didn't even drink what I brought on, as I got free drinks in the casino, starting day 3.

Exactly! My DH doesn't really drink. He will buy a pina colada once in a while and drink about a 1/4 of it and give the rest to me. This one time he drank the whole thing, I asked him how he felt, he said fine, he could have given it to our 11 yo DD at the time. :D

We met a couple on our cruise a couple of weeks ago. His gin made it through, her kahlua did not. We zipped through security with our water, soda and wine in our carry on and they never touched a bottle. So random.

But you can bring those items on legally so of course you would zip right thru, no reason to stop you.

We can yack all we want about it, but if Carnival wanted to stop smuggling they easily could by searching every bag. However, the man power and logistic costs to perform this task must out weight the lost revenue from "potential" lost sells.

So preachers, preach on. And smugglers, smuggle on.

It is funny that they allow a bottle of wine per person, but not an equal amount of fine beer or liquor though...

I have heard many here saying they removed and looked at and shook every bottle of liquid they had with them in the carry on luggage. I was simply pointing out that the folks in our line had our carry on bags zip through the scanner and nobody checked anything.

Don't forget those who bring their own tuxedos vs renting from the cruise line and those who have TWO lobster tails in the dining room! Thievery!!

I will order one or two bottles from Bon Voyage but will still bring some of my own since the variety is SOOOOOO limited from Bon Voyage. Wish I liked just one liquor but I like to mix and make fruity yumminess. Win-win :D

What about those people that leave a lil butter in the packet after eating a roll...they eat a second roll (profit leaches!) And open a second butter packet!!!! I bet if the surrounding tables were asked there would surely be enough butter leavings to satisfy this obvious communist plant's desire for cholesterol. Are you listening john heald? Profits is flying of the promenade!!!

Now sir, I think you said it the best! :D

The cruise contract is totally skewed to the cruise line's favor. "Contract"? Give me a break. These ships are registered in foreign countries for financial convenience. I have no issue with folks smuggling alcohol on a ship. If the cruise lines want to sell more booze, then drop the drink prices. Make it up on greater volume.

As to stockholders and Carnival's share price, they should be more concerned about Concordia, and how that cruise contract is playing out. Carnival is VERY good at making money, smuggled booze should be the least of their concerns.

This comes from a CCL shareholder.

"smoke screen," no REALITY.

What don't you understand?

And please don't give me the lame excuse that smugglers still have a large bar bill. Well, guess what? It would significantly larger if they didn't smuggle.

And please don't give me the other lame excuses...

A. They don't have my brand

B. They pour weak drinks

C. I want a drink on my balcony before dinner

D. They are too expensive

Those are all rationalizations.

Bottom line is that smuggling is not only a cruise contract violation but also theft from the shareholders.

Nope. My dh will mix a drink in the room if we bring it, but if we don't he won't buy any. The large S&S bill is mine, all mine, whether we smuggle or not! You don't speak for EVERYONE.

Carnival has at it's disposal all the authority they need to stop alcohol smuggling completely. New rule: caught smuggling you will be put off at the next port and have to fly yourself home at your expense. No one would smuggle. ALL smuggling would cease immediately.

But, I ask, what would that do to ticket sales?

So Carnival walks that thin line. They sorta kinda try to stop smugglers without doing anything that will discourage smugglers from purchasing a cruise. After all, a smuggler spends just as much money as a non-drinking cruiser....
