Star Alliance question

Hey everyone,

I noticed that my itinerary consists of flights provided by UAL and SAS. Both are in the Star Alliance(SA) network. If you have a situation where one of the flight is cancelled or delayed, can one of these airlines put you on flights that are provided by other SA partners without going through much hassle like reissuing tickets, simiarly put you on stand by and deliver you to your destination? Or is this wishful thinking?

I am just curious to know how flexible and cooperative these airlines are when its time to take care of their customers.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

The short answer is yes. Indeed, this happened to me a couple of years ago - was flying to FLL on Aeroplan reward tickets, with YQB-YYZ-PHL on AC, and PHL-FLL on US Air. High winds closed the airport in PHL, so was eventually put on a YYZ-MIA AC flight.
