Cruisin4US Posted May 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2005 Does anyone know if RCCL contracts with North Star Trekking for their Extended Helicopter Glacier Trek excursion? If you book with RCCL, could you end up with any of the companies in Alaska that do this excursion? And, just how strenuous is the 6+ hour trek? Thanks! jrask Posted May 5, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2005 Does anyone else in Juneau provide this excursion now? I'd cross-check the description and/or pictures used by the web site with those on Northstar's site. But its probably Northstar. Per Northstar, the 6 hours is really 4 hours on the ice. I've only seen one post here on the extended trek, but many of us have done the normal glacier trek (2 hours on the ice). For what its worth, I found the 2 hours less strenuous than most 1-hour hikes. Mainly because you take lots of breaks in the action ... they escort hikers 1 or 2 at a time through anything that is even a tiny bit difficult, so you wait before you go and after you go. This isn't boring or wasted time because you will be awe struck and taking pictures of the glacier, yourself and others. You gotta figure they don't want the liability of you doing something after being even a little tired ... liability waivers only go so far and do nothing to stem off tragic publicity. After 2 hours on the ice, we didn't feel anything and could easily gone for longer. The 4 hour usually pushes a bit more, but we had some amazing sights so they pushed us too. I know the 4-hour includes the ice climb too, which may be a bit harder.
